Post Reply Cosplaying, why do some people not "get it"?

Nothing wrong with cosplaying, but the moment you actually think and act like you`re some fucking anime character there`s something wrong with that, LOL.

I enjoy looking at people that cosplay and admiring how they look or how much time they put into doing it, but I could never see myself cosplaying. Like I guess maybe if it's for a private party and the one condition is you have to cosplay. Sort of like a halloween party but for anime.

I admire the craft, and don't mind the eye candy, but I personally think the time focused on trying to look like 'such-and-such' cool character is probably better spent trying to be your own unique 'cool character' in real life instead.

So I was told by 2 people yesterday on GaiaOnline that they do not like cosplaying and do not understand why people would waste their time and money on it.

This is something I do not understand, as I love to cosplay and I feel like I always will.

That is my cosplay page. I love to expand people's knowledge about the industry and I would love to see more cosplayers in Ohio, because none of my friends are cosplayers and I would love to have a cosplay buddy!

you do not get it why other people do not like it or understand it? its actually very simple we are not all alike. and as such we all have different views as to what is good or has worth. to you cosplaying has more worth than say going hiking or drag racing. to me its something else such as building a computer from scratch and pushing the limits of its hardware

do i dislike cosplaying??? no not really.

do i like it? not really

would i do it? maybe once a year sort of like Halloween dress up in a costume and go to a party.

i know its part of the japanese culture and has been adopted by many western cultures already along with the anime and manga.

Some people do not understand or can comprehend what others enjoy.

For example, I cannot understand why some people would spend countless money on sportscars for collection.

So, basically- people do not "get it" because they do not understand or like the thought of cosplaying.

Yeah... Cosplaying is just make yourself look like as a character you like. How could people not get that. It's just common sense to get it.

i guess just the way people are. you can say that about most things in life.

I love to cosplay it took me a long time to be able to do so mainly because i needed to be able to get the money for it. (i couldn't even make home made costumes with the little money i had) Though now that i do it i love it. Sure I hardly ever look like the characters but i enjoy it and it makes me happy.

They don't have to really. We have different hobbies, as long as you don't judge me you're on the safe side

I'm not too familiar with Japanese culture, anime, or cosplaying so it just wasn't something that registered on my radar.

So how did you find crunchyroll?

I think it's because the bad cosplay outweighs the good and people see more bad than good.

I think its acceptable, its just not in our culture aside from Halloween. I believe that we as humans evolved to not like things/people that are different since different or unfamiliar things could have easily hurt our ancestors. I'm just pulling this out of my butt no source but its just an idea I have. Although now that I think about it we have always used costumes at party's and rituals lol.

Though I don't cosplay since I am a very frugal person and I don't like using money on anything but what I'll use many times over. with cosplay its kinda a one time deal unless you have the ability go to multiple conventions.

I must be in the minority, I really like bad cosplayers. They make the convention for me.
