I don't get the appeal of dressing up like an animated character (unless it's your job and you get paid for it) but it doesn't bother and/or harm me in any way so keep on doing it if you enjoy it.

One of my female friends pestered me into watching "Free!". I just have to ask, do any of you know anyone who tried to cosplay anyone from it ? I know I sure as heck couldn't do that. I'm underweight actually XD

Cosplaying is just an activity where you put on specific clothing to look like your anime idol or whoever you want to be
I am me, I will dress as me, that is all
Also, I feel like I'd at least need to have similarities to the character like if your 6 feet and the character is like 5 feet. It makes no sense

It's just different values and interest. I personally am not a fan nor can I see ever spending money on it, but to each his own.

I think people confuse it with 'playing dressup' thus due to commonly associating it with being a childish activity (e.g. birthday parties, halloween etc.) they see it as exactly that. It's just one of those things in which people who don't get it probably won't ever try to nor want to.

I think it's just a hobby like another, and it can be very quickly misunderstood if the person isn't interested in that kind of thing.

For example, there are a lot of people that loves to spend money on their cars. They love to buy cars and/or modify them. I personally don't understand that kind of interest. I can't understand someone who modify its car to be louder (to me, it just sounds like you're driving a lawn-mower anyway) I can't understand why you want to spend money on a car that doesn't worth anything when reselling it. You'll never make money out of a car, you'll just lose money. You just do that to get attention.

See? I'm pretty sure that the people who "doesn't get it" actually feel that way. "Why spend so much money on a costume just to be flashy and cool in a convention? That's a waste of money!!" Anyway, that's how I see it. But don't get me wrong, I have nothing against cosplay XD

So I was told by 2 people yesterday on GaiaOnline that they do not like cosplaying and do not understand why people would waste their time and money on it.

This is something I do not understand, as I love to cosplay and I feel like I always will.

That is my cosplay page. I love to expand people's knowledge about the industry and I would love to see more cosplayers in Ohio, because none of my friends are cosplayers and I would love to have a cosplay buddy!

Well, I'm not a cosplayer but I understand why some may like it aswell as why others don't. First of all someone may hate on a cosplayer because they think the cosplayer is more beautiful then they are and then they might try to push you down because they can't admit their own flaws. And some others may not like it because it just doesn't suit their lifestyle.

Perhaps they know little or nothing about the passion of cosplayers have for their favorite characters or series. As expected from haters, it's easy to think that they haven't cosplayed for once in their lives, can't comprehend all the effort put into the costume, or isn't even able to look deeper into the significance of such activity.

Personally, I perceive cosplaying as art thanks to the cosplayers' resoluteness to spend their time on crafting a garment based on the characters who played a fine role in their lives. It's acceptable as long as it's not done in a gaudy way, particularly wearing it in the general public - work, restaurant, school, etc. - and trying too hard to imitate a character's voice or pose.
