They don't "get it" because they're ignorant. They don't understand what goes into it and why we do it and a lot of the time, they don't make the effort to. Cosplaying is no different than any other hobby. How much money and time do some people put into video gaming? Or extreme sports? Or any other past-time?

I wholeheartedly support cosplaying and love to do it on occasion. The community is amazing and energy at cons is unbelievable. At least we interact socially IRL unlike those coach potato gamers...(jk, I love my video games too )

I really like your cosplay photos, and there is a lot of people who don't understand cosplay
people are usually like its a waste of money and time, but I think its a great hobby and a way to show and dress as our favorite characters.

It's the same thing as people not liking anime and thinking it's stupid or not liking other things people do as hobbies. They're just not interested in cosplay and don't want to understand it.

Um, you do realize that not everyone is going to be into the same thing you are, right?
I know a lot of people who don't get cosplay, including myself. I guess it's just people expressing their admiration for a certain character or series, yet to go through such extremes to display it is kind of pointless to me, yet there are many others who don't find it pointless and love to do it.

Granted, I've never cosplayed, and I respect those who enjoy it. I suppose under the right circumstances (available funds, the right character for me, and a con in mind to attend) I might get into it down the road. It just hasn't been a viable option thus far, mostly because of the money issue. It doesn't help that I'm also legally blind, and traveling alone isn't a wise choice.

That said, I don't get the argument that it's a "waste of money" (unless one is choosing to buy costumes or props instead of food or paying the rent, which would be really ridiculous.) I would imagine such extremes exist within any hobby, but I'm sure most won't ever take it that far.

That is my cosplay page. I love to expand people's knowledge about the industry and I would love to see more cosplayers in Ohio, because none of my friends are cosplayers and I would love to have a cosplay buddy!

Honestly, I do not get it myself even though I like animation, but I do not have to understand your position. Likeability is a function of personal values—taste is entropy.

Uh... I wish I had an answer. It depends on the people. Do they love anime? Because if not then that right there might be the reason. They probably think it's too immature. But if they do like anime then I don't know, maybe they just think it's a waste of money because a lot of people end up looking pretty silly after they just wasted a month or two's worth of paycheck.

I'm not too familiar with Japanese culture, anime, or cosplaying so it just wasn't something that registered on my radar. I don't think I even heard of cosplay until I was in high school. I've also never been to an anime convention either.

It's cool that some people really pursue cosplay as a hobby, I've seen some really great results (and some hilariously poor ones). I enjoy dressing up once a year for Halloween, but personally I'm not very good with arts and crafts so putting together a cool cosplay costume probably isn't in the cards for me.

As for people accepting cosplay, I wouldn't even worry about that. Such a varied spectrum of people and their interests, personalities, hobbies, etc. I never really fault people for not liking the things I do. Besides, the people that matter in the grand scheme of your love for your hobby won't mind your cosplaying. And the people who mind that you cosplay won't matter in your pursuit of it. So just live and let live.

I don't really understand it either, but I don't mind the people that do. However, I am attracted to girls that cosplay..

I was one of those people that didnt get it. And TBH I still dont (just like people didnt get why I spent so much time playing games). But I'm fine with people doing it. They just show their love of the show differently then I do. I wouldnt cosplay as my favorite characer from a show, but if someone does, I'm cool with it now. Except when I see a 300 pound man wearing a wonder woman outfit. I dont think I'll ever understand that lol.
