You know, I understand that series like BTOOOM! and My Little Monster, that up to this point have around 50 chapters, are scheduled to be 12-13 episodes since the have limited manga material. However, I have read that CODE:BREAKER is scheduled to have only 13 episodes. Now, IF that is true, am I the only one that finds that weird since the manga has almost 200 chapters? I mean, they could easily go 25-26 episodes without having to animate any kind of 'filler' whatsoever. Another way to look at it, why bother animating a series that has been running for so long if you're just going to animate less than 1/4 of the series?

Any thoughts?

A lot of it depends on how the contributions from the production committee members were structured. If the manga publisher is footing the biggest chunk of the production, the benefit for them declines with the number of episodes. If the committee member handling DVD/BD sales expected those to be average at best, they would have been reluctant to kick in additional funding to go beyond one cour, especially since they would likely have an option of negotiating to fund a second series later if sales were better than expected.

tl;dr version: Sometimes it is about the money, not the length of the source material.

The question is: is the anime an advertisement for the manga or is the anime expected to make lots of money on its own? A popular manga or light novel can sell half a million or more copies at ¥500-1000 each which makes much more than a good 10000 unit or excellent 25008 unit¥4-7000 BD run. This doesn't include the monthly magazine sales. If fans buy boxed sets of all the manga because they want to know how the story ends then it will make the publishers a tidy sum and they usually have it in hand already, just need to print more while more seasons of anime is expensive to produce, slow and if people lose interest then you have thousands of coasters and lose your shirt on production costs.

It took me so long to read that. Your writing is harder to read than a textbook. It was a fun experience.

Sad to agree The sound started stuttering halfway through this week's episode on Funimation so I stopped it. Didn't even care to try it again. 06, 05... Why not have 007??? Ug... Dropped.

I know this is two months early but I just got so excited after watching the teaser.
I honestly cannot wait for the anime to come out!
I've been a fan of the manga series since it debuted
and I remember when I used to wait every week for a new chapter to come out.
I'll be tuning in for new episodes this time. I'm so happy!

I want to know what everyone else thinks.
Fall is gonna be good!

So disappointed.

Please tell me there is some way for the anime to turn it around.
PS: Should I give the manga a try

I don't know if the anime still has a chance to improve.
Though I honestly don't see it. I'm on the verge of dropping it tbh.

The manga is quite decent though.

I find your take on it a bit strange, because I have also read a lot of chapters of the manga and, other than introducing some characters out of sequence, I thought that it was pretty true to the manga. However, I still don't have it in my top tier of anime this season, because it also has the same flaws as the manga:

1. A story that is all over the place, especially early on.

There is so much that happens that has no explanation in the manga until you are to about chapter 20. At least, with the changes they have made in terms of introducing some characters early and a bit more exposition about the world, they actually improved on that, but not enough to make it less of a "WTF" moment every time you watch. For a show that has done this type of withheld information right, see Blast of Tempest. It doesn't spoon feed you the world, but it gives you enough to go on that you can figure out what is happening, for the most part. (Though I think it has its share of twists coming up too.)

2. An impossibly black-and-white world where there is only good and evil.

Not only that, but the bad guys are such psycho-moronic idiots! Can we have at least one bad guy that doesn't try to kill/rape/defile everyone that they come into contact with? The bad guys are also far too powerful. Take episode 4 for example,

3. Inconsistent tone.

The show doesn't seem to know how it wants to play things. Does this want to be a hard-core action show, an ecchi comedy, or what? Why, in a show that seems to mostly be an action show, do we have

The over-the-top reactions of the classmates to everything and the complete obliviousness of the heroine to the assumptions everyone makes about her "relationship" to the male lead may have been funny once, but the fact that they continue to use the same joke over and over also gets old.

4. Unlikeable characters.

So far, not even the heroine is really very likeable. Her "best friend" seems to be a simpleton that has no dimensions to her character, her parents are just comic relief and the mom is one of the worst cases of the "Hot Shounen Mom taken to extremes" I have ever seen! Even Sanai in Clannad at least looked like she might be Nagisa's older sister who is either in or graduated from college, even when they dressed her in school clothes she looked refined and mature. The mom in this show looks like she should be going to the mall with her friends and talking about how much fun it will be next spring when they are finally in middle school! Knowing what is coming up in terms of revelations about her family, I still enjoy watching the scenes with her parents, but if I hadn't read the manga, I would probably just be annoyed by them.

But, anyway... My point is that I don't feel any different about the anime than I did reading the manga. The flaws are all translated faithfully from page to screen. It is a fun read/watch, but the strain it puts on credulity and lack of characters that I want to see succeed makes it hard to have enthusiasm for it...

That post was coming from a fan. A disappointed fan.
I expected so much more from the pilot episode. C:B is one of the most (and getting much more)
popular mangas out there. I really expected something great like that of Ao no Exorcist's pilot.

Now I'm not saying the manga is heaps times better in any way.
It's a generic shounen manga with generic characters and overused
cliche scenes with overused dialogues. As a fan even I admit of its flaws.
My point is, the anime was a huge disappointment. The animation, music
and for fucks sake even the voice actors. I haven't been disappointed in
an anime production in a long time.

I will have to admit that the animation is not up to snuff compared to other recent action shows, or even in comparison to some shoujo romance anime! LOL! Compare this with Psycho-Pass, Blast of Tempest, or K and it looks like it was drawn by a rank amateur with no budget and less talent! (Anything beyond the action and animation in K is another story altogether.)

But I'm still watching it... LOL! :)

For my take on this and other shows of the season, see my blog. Two of my recent posts have my rankings for the current season's shows, split into Tier 1 and Tier 2. This show is in Tier 2.

Its only 13 episodes....? I should stop watching now, I was somewhat enjoying it but now I know it'll have a horrible ending. Guess I will add it to my "do not remember" list, along with Deadman Wonderland and Zetman.
