Friends and family are most important, to me, so I'd first ask if they have it or not. If not, then I'd grab the guy, throw him, then pin him. Judo for the win. Nice and easy, and everyone's relatively unhurt.

Blades or what not, well, I have my own also, but that means messy work, hospital visits, explaining to/avoiding cops, etc.... I don't like fights that escalate to that point is what I'm saying. Only had that happen once, and they got out of the hospital after traction.

I would strip to my birthday suit and run at them full force, arms wide open.

But in all seriousness, yeah, same as everyone else. I would help him/her out to the fullest of my abilities.

One thing wrong with that, pinning someone only works in competitions. In the real world its quite useless unless you put him to sleep/knock him out in the process. Or break his arms/legs/neck

If you can't break it up or stop it then i would definitely stand up for my friends. However the thing is that if your over 18 in the UK and this happens in public and you 'accidentally' break his noes or something then thats a lawsuit and court proceedings to look forward to.

If it's minor or in a joking way or an accident, I won't care. I'll sometimes just ask if everything is okay or I'll add to the hurt, depending on the situation.

If it's a serious situation that's happening or something about to get serious, I will intervene. I don't like conflict but if I have to do something as easy as throw a few punches to make sure everyone gets home safe, I'll go ahead and do that. Gotta have discernment though. You need to be able to tell between a situation that can be stopped by talking and one that can't. Hit first and hit hard as soon as the opportunity presents itself if it's one of those guaranteed violent situations. Hit them when they're distracted and hit them when they're down. It's not about a clean fight, it's about protecting people.

The person throwing the first punch is the weakest. I always get people to throw the first puch and when they do i punch them right in the throat. If that doesnt work then i really fight. I can see your reasoning like if there was a girl getting beat up, than id put hands on the guy fast.
As for a sucker punch. never, hate watchin sucker puches.

If I'm not in the dojo and I'm fighting, I don't care about rules or honor or whatever. I'm conditioned to, but it just isn't practical in situations in which your aggressors can't be reasoned with. I can say that in a defense situation, whether it's defense of my home or people I care about, I will fight dirty. I will gouge eyes, kick sand, deal low blows and throw feints and sucker punches. I'm not a particularly big guy and I don't strength-train every day. I can't afford to try being all cool in one of those unfortunate situations. I'm good at doing things people don't expect, so I will abuse that if I have to.

If you truly wanrted to protect someone bad enough you would have learned how to. Im 5'8 and not the bulkiest guy out there but i learn martial arts to protect people and end the fight in the most effecient way possible. Also i didnt say to let him hit you with the first punch.

I am a martial artist myself. Even with that in mind, there's no point letting someone who's threatening you with deadly force get into the best position and be ready to attack you. It would only make the situation more dangerous for you. If I get into something like that, I'm going to press every advantage I can. That's efficient. Not doing so in a real fight where there's something precious at stake would be foolish. Save honor for people who deserve it, like the guys you train with and your instructor. I understand you might want the other guy to act first so you can claim self defense in court, but that assumes that you are still alive and well enough to go to court. If there's a burly dude who's 100 pounds heavier than me, hell no I'm not letting him swing first if I can help it. It'd be straight up arrogant if I believe I can deal with being attacked first in every situation. I don't have that kind of dangerous confidence, not should anyone else if they actually valued what they're protecting more than their pride. The guy who is still able to walk away is the one who really wins, and it's not always the stronger guy who trains the most.

Something my grandpa told me a while back before he passed away (translated): "Good and evil? Honor and shame? Does it always matter what you think is right and wrong? In this world, there are only dead people and live people."

I would step in of course.
And if they tell me it is none of my business to be engaging, then i would tell them that the second they messed with my home girl they made it part of my business. I would go all ghetto on them. I would thrust my chest and be like "whatacha b doing with meh home girl eh? Want a piece of me (bleep > <)" Jk...But seriously i would step in. No one messes with my friends D:

Lol well it would have to be someone badass to hurt my friends.
Since we're all Gym-rats. I can somewhat grapple and my best friend is a boxer.
My other friend is a legit wrestler. Knowing how to fight is somewhat typical in hawaii...

Well, for most people I agree - I'm a bit of an exception, I kinda have an advantage over most people size and strength wise. Not much that a person can do with several hundred pounds sitting on their back. Although you do have a point, when it gets dirty you'll wind up breaking arms and legs. Oh well. They shouldn't start shit to begin with.

Depends, if I think I have the means to deal with the person picking on my friend, then I certainly would. Otherwise, there's no point in getting beat up right beside them. In that scenario I think calling the police, or asking others in the area for help would be my best option.

I'd get a bottle of water and spray it at the attacker. Its safe, and it confuses people.
