to each their own
I know I'm not going to change your mind and you won't change mine so I'm calling a truce on this case

I thought I already did when I said I'll just leave it at that, but even so. Truce accepted.

Wikipedia - Manga (漫画?) are comics created in Japan, or by Japanese creators in the Japanese language, conforming to a style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. They have a long, complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art.

There you go. In the end, the same thing. Why give it a different name? Cause there is a notable quality to the body of works and ideas that they warrant and have proven to be able to sustain the alternate name. Basically it was marketed as Manga and Anime and it stuck. If it didn't work, we would have kept the old old description of Japanese Animation or Japanimation and Japanese Comics. Simple. Also note, Japan also has a large fanbases for US comics and animation. End note. Also, news paper comic strips are also called comics and are often in black and white.

Oh yeah, original comment. Nope. I never hid my stuff. Put on my bookshelfs for everyone to see and lent out stuff for those of my friends who were interested. Even when I was younger. Of course I'm Asian so my non-Asian friends might have just assumed it was normal since all the charcters were talking in "Asian" anyways. Plus if they ever critized my anime and manga habits, I always had reality TV and fashion magizines to get back at them. I don't think I ever throw out the word "Otaku" cause I know most people won't understand it and the US term for Otaku is different from Japan's term anyways. Back then I would say I'm a big Anime and Manga fan and it often start a 5 to 30 min conversation and now a days its like, "Oh yeah, I liked Yugioh back then." or "Oh like Dragonball Z or Avatar? Those shows were cool" Which would then start with a yes and then another 5 - 30 minute talk explaining how Avatar isn't from Japan.

Yeah, I usually always end up hiding my anime, manga, sketchpads or anything related to them. I personally think that most of the people I know would think of me differently if they saw it.

Only if it's porn for all the good THAT does. Screen usually freezes or locks up on the most outrageous pose too. So much for having 2-3 folders in waiting...lol

Figures literally all over the room. Anime, anime art books, and manga filling the book shelves. I couldn't hide it if I wanted to.

Uh--that would be a BIT hard in my case considering I have Anime Posters everywhere and more Anime/J-Pop music CDs than you could throw a stick at. And my closet--you'd be buried alive by boxes containing DVDs and books/manga if you weren't careful. So--I'd probably warn the person before hand because there's NO WAY I could hide everything. Oh--then there's the Anime plushy "shrine" in the corner-- Then there's the massive pile of DVDs and Blus in the TV room. So, yeah--if you were to come to my house, I wouldn't be able to pull off hiding it from anyone. Not that I'm embarrassed about my hobby or anything--in fact I'm proud to be an Anime fan. It can just be a bit--overwhelming even WITH a warning!

No. I decorate my room whatever I want. No one tells me what my room should look like if it's not "normal" to them.

I have my own place, and the wife and I prefer to leave our home to visit with friends/family so we don't take anything down.
