My uncle used to always see me watching my anime and manga and would make comments such as - 'you watch some crazy crap' or, 'what children's cartoon are you watching now?' It made me self-conscious. But now I really don't care what he thinks and don't bother hiding my stuff when he passes by. Why waste your life wondering about the critical thoughts of others over something so trivial?

I suspect they are sick of me talking about it! I ruined some of them by showing them Ninja Scroll, Wicked City and Golgo 13, they think all anime is like that now... I should have mixed it up a bit. Generally I don't have to hide what I am reading or watching unless it is really ecchi and people are around who wouldn't appreciate it. I do occasionally use a bookmark to cover the naughty bits in Nozoki Ana if my kids are around... Anyone used manga for 'the talk'? LOL

I do the same even if I'm just watching ESPN...Old habit from when my step dad would come into the room, see what I was watching and give his commentary lol always found it annoying.

I am still getting used to listening to j-pop in front of people though, that is tough but getting easier. I am pretty sure that the people who keep saying they hide hentai don't realize that of course they do, kinda obvious. lol

I also have shelves full of anime, a manga shelf, a relatively hefty jpop cd collection and a glass cabinet displaying the models/figures i've purchased over the years. It's pretty much impossible for me to hide anything if someone comes into my room. That said, I wouldn't bother to anyway since this is all a pretty integral part of who I am. Oh, i also named my cat after an Idol Singer, so if anyone asks where the name Reina came from (and trust me, they ALWAYS ask) i tell them straight - which reminds me, I also have photobooks and a signature scarf of Tanak Reina from Morning Musume.
