I live about an hour away from NYC didn't get hit as bad as the city did, but damage was done from Sandy. There was live wires on trees blocking the roads and I just got power back a few hours ago. I tried to go to Walmart and a 20 minute trip took three hours -__- I'm just glad everyones safe that I know I was expecting worse.

I live in upper state New York, and we hardly got any damage the local media hyped us to expect to get. We mostly just got tons of rain, and super strong winds.
Some people who's houses were on the verge of collapsing, collapsed. Also, a local hotel fell as well, due to the rain and wind. They also stopped all traffic from being on the road/highways since 2:00 PM on Monday.
No deaths, but there were injuries. A lot of people lost power (I didn't, obviously), and because of that lost their only heat source.
The coastal cities are a mess, though. My family in Connecticut were hit hard. Their dog drowned, due to the waves, and their home was damaged.

Anywhere properly prepared shouldn't have had much of a problem.
But this sums up the midwest.

It was definitely an kick to the face of the eastern states especially since it's the first to make it that far up in 30 years I heard?
I live in Texas right by the Gulf of Mexico so I'm no stranger to hurricanes in general.
Right at the end of Hurricane Season too... :c

My preparation was a 12 pack of beer. I enjoyed the 2 days out from school. Still went to work though. Held a party the day of where not even electricity was invited. It was just minor flooding, heavy winds, and some debris flying about.

It doesn't seem to be very sandy, in fact it's the complete opposite. It's actually quite wet.

my thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this storm.however, as bad as it was.i think that they should be grateful that it wasnt as strong as hurricane andrew or katrina or wilma because i'd assure you that conditions could be just worse.lastly, i will say to those reading this hang in there because from now on it should get better!

^^ Okay, good one, but that was in poor taste.
So far lower Manhattan has gotten back power(friend of mine could not stay quiet about it).
Despite the fact that power is coming back to a lot of the areas in the Tri State, still can't help but notice how people who live/lived in
New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, etc., etc, are going to be affected for months to come; not to mention, the fact that there are people who died in the storm and the ones that turned up dead afterwards is..........yeah its pretty depressing.

What are my thoughts?
Well, now mid-east-coasters know what life is like for people living in other places.

It's depressing to think about it, because some of my relatives live where Hurricane Sandy is now.
I'm glad I'm not beside that area, but..
