Hi, I just got my beta key for Wizardry Online and it's currently downloading...I'll try it out and tell you about it soon :)

What got me interested to the game is the fact that when you die you don't necessary respawn, you could be PERMA DEAD! I guess the goal of the game is to clear dungeons or something like that and you can make parties...it kind of reminded me of Sword Art Online hehe...anyway I'm kinda looking forward to try it.

Cool! I've always been a fan of the Wizardry games, which makes this very interesting to me.

Though I have to question the perma death thing because depending on just how severe the penalty is, it could cause a lot of anger among players.

Anyways, looks awesome! I'll definitely be keeping up on this one!

Alright so I did the tutorial...First thing I dislike, NPC talks forever and most of the time you can't skip it...the controls feel weird too (compared to WoW for example or other 3d mmorpg)
What I liked so far : traps in dungeon, the level of difficulty, the RP side of the game, that you can die forever...

more to come

edit : ANSWER
I think the perma death adds it to the RP side...people will take their time and skills like detect traps and stuff like that will have their uses (thief) not only pure combat skills will make you succesful.

How it works: When you die you become a soul (some kind of ghost) and you have to find a statue to ressurect and you have a certain amount of time before dying for real, also you can teleport to the statue but this will highly damage your equipement. Also, I think depending on your lvl and other stuff you have a percentage of chance to revive, you can make offerings topump that % if you really don't want to lose your char.

Alright so I started the first dungeon and it's pretty hard, for a mage at least, fighters seem that have it more easy since they don't have a cast time..anyway respawn time is ridiculously short, monsters just keep popping...
I partied with a thief for the first dungeon and it was pretty fun, I'd enjoy playing this with friends on skype or something. The progression is pretty slow also...skill description is lacking too.

Alright that's it for now..
I think it's a game where people who like dungeon and dragon would appreciate or just like to team up with people to clear dungeons...after 3 hours we didn't even clear the first one...(we are newb tho, we read everything to know what to do...)

Thank you for the hands on review!!!!

I was concerned about the perma death, but from what you described it doesn't seem to be that bad. Also, it's kind of cool seeing it done in traditional Wizardry fashion. But I can see it now as people rage quit after reading "<your name> has been turned to Ash" lol

It makes me sad most people don't realize the history Wizardry has. It's one of the original dungeon crawlers originating all the way back in 1981. I used to play the original on the Apple II. Wizardry is old-school.

Heh, I remember the whole series. There are some old people still around you know Although it has had its own campaign settings, it has been heavily influenced by D&D. Is the new one using a D20 system like some of the past games?

Is the game even fun enough to continue playing past the tutorial dungeon? I'm just kind of... unimpressed with it. I played the first Wizardry game earlier in the year and loved it, but this... just doesn't deliver on the MMO feel I was hoping for when it came to the licence.

Oh my god, these cutscene dialogs move at the pace of a crippled snail.

And the camera and targeting is kinda wonky. Right click to move the camera AND to deselect?

We've got a bunch of geniuses developing this game, for sure.

Despite all of that, I played through the tutorial dungeon and I kinda like it so far.
