Hi there, a couple of days ago I started watching "Bombshells from the Sky" and was able to watch 5 episodes, now I'm trying to continue and every episode I've tried says:
"Sorry, this video is not available in your region due to licensing restrictions."

Is there something wrong ?. Because otherwise this would just be plain cruel. Show is still in my list and in my queue. But still can't watch it.

Any idea ?. Thanks.

I am sure TAO will correct me if I am wrong, but the way I understand it, if you are in NA you can only watch the first two episodes. This is because the show is licensed by Funimation. You can read more about it here.

Then why am I not warned about it ?????. This specific show sucks and I don't really care, but if it was something else I would have closed my account already.

It's like, hey look we have a bunch of shows. But some of them will simply stop working at some point and you won't be able to see the end, OK ?

Now seriously, I would like to identify which shows I won't be able to see completely so I can waste my time on something equally crappy but with and ending. How can I do it ?

Thanks for your time.

The thread that I linked you to was the warning that was posted 7 months ago. And the show did not stop working for everyone else, all of the episodes are available for those outside NA. They could put a note about region restrictions, but that would be preferential as other regions do not get that treatment, and having a note saying you won't be able to watch the whole show works the same as the region restriction message. Licensing is a tricky thing, so cases such as this one will pop up from time to time. If you want to watch the rest of the show, you can go to here.

According to my interpretation of the announcement, it's supposed to be like this:

episodes 1 - 2: Available in North America only.
episodes 3 - 12: Available worldwide except for Japan, Korea and Mongolia.

And it used to be that way until now. I was unable to watch the first two episodes. But now, the configuration changed and I can watch all episodes.

Unfortunately, the announcement can be read in multiple ways. It would be nice if someone from Crunchyroll could confirm the actual region restrictions of this series.

I gather the same thing as koningdavid from that post. Yet I'm not in North America and I was able to watch the first 4 complete episodes so there is something broken here.
Besides, I do want a huge warning on top of each show like this. The logic for this is already in place, just use the same you use to actually prevent people from seen the video. You could even make it a user preference if you feel some people would be bothered about this. Otherwise it's just deceptive advertisement.

Again, thanks for your time.

As I recall, they later stated (although not in that thread) they were able to retain full rights for all episodes. Checking the source for the RSS feed shows the following media tag (the one that indicates country permissions) for episode 1:

restriction relationship="allow" type="country">af ax al dz as ad ao ai aq ag ar am aw au at az bs bh bd bb by be bz bj bm bt bo ba bw bv br io bn bg bf bi kh cm ca cv ky cf td cl cn cx cc co km cg cd ck cr ci hr cu cy cz dk dj dm do tl tp ec eg sv gq er ee et fk fo fj fi fr gf pf tf ga gm ge de gh gi gr gl gd gp gu gt gg gn gw gy ht hm va hn hk hu is in id ir iq ie im il it jm je jo kz ke ki kw kg la lv lb ls lr ly li lt lu mo mk mg mw my mv ml mt mh mq mr mu yt mx fm md mc me ms ma mz mm na nr np nl an nc nz ni ne ng nu nf mp no om pk pw ps pa pg py pe ph pn pl pt pr qa re ro ru rw bl sh kn lc mf pm vc ws sm st sa sn rs sc sl sg sk si sb so za gs es lk sd sr sj sz se ch sy tw tj tz th tg tk to tt tn tr tm tc tv ug ua ae gb us um uy uz vu ve vn vg vi wf eh ye zm zw</media:restriction>

For comparison, episode 8 shows the following:

restriction relationship="allow" type="country">af ax al dz as ad ao ai aq ag ar am aw au at az bs bh bd bb by be bz bj bm bt bo ba bw bv br io bn bg bf bi kh cm ca cv ky cf td cl cn cx cc co km cg cd ck cr ci hr cu cy cz dk dj dm do tl tp ec eg sv gq er ee et fk fo fj fi fr gf pf tf ga gm ge de gh gi gr gl gd gp gu gt gg gn gw gy ht hm va hn hk hu is in id ir iq ie im il it jm je jo kz ke ki kw kg la lv lb ls lr ly li lt lu mo mk mg mw my mv ml mt mh mq mr mu yt mx fm md mc me ms ma mz mm na nr np nl an nc nz ni ne ng nu nf mp no om pk pw ps pa pg py pe ph pn pl pt pr qa re ro ru rw bl sh kn lc mf pm vc ws sm st sa sn rs sc sl sg sk si sb so za gs es lk sd sr sj sz se ch sy tw tj tz th tg tk to tt tn tr tm tc tv ug ua ae gb us um uy uz vu ve vn vg vi wf eh ye zm zw</media:restriction>

Both are the same length, so I have little reason to suspect they are anything other than identical.

The country codes are ISO 3166 standard. A list is available at:

I only assumed that that post was still valid because I am unable to watch past episode 2 myself.

These were supposed to be Worldwide for Episodes 1 and 2, and Worldwide outside of North America for episodes 3-12. This was properly updated yesterday and there may be another news post that clears this up.

I also got the "Sorry, this video is not available in your region due to licensing restrictions" message after episode 2. This includes episode 8, whose tag (as shown in my previous message) indicates it should be available to viewers in the United States.

I also note over on Funimation that all sub episodes for the series are for Elite subscribers only. For the dub, only episodes 1 & 2 are available for free viewing. It appears if one is in the U.S. or Canada, and wants to stay legit, you have to pay (or at least take the free trial).

Well, that makes everything clear.

It's great that Crunchyroll still keeps this show available for people outside North America after Funimation licensed it.

They changed it again. For me, it's the opposite. I can't watch the first two episodes.

I've seen a lot of region locking screw-ups at Crunchyroll, but this sure is a weird one.

Yeah. Given its firstly a US service, I'd kind of expect them not not bother with shows they can't get the US rights for. This good treatment for us other folks is nice to see.

When it was simulcast, it was worldwide outside Japan, Korea and Mongolia, including North America.

They seem to have persuaded the licensor to write a great license, so that when FUNimation licensed the series and Crunchyroll lost the North American rights, Crunchyroll was not forced to surrender the rest of the rights.

More contracts like that would be nice, it would allow the back catalog for countries outside of North America to accumulate faster.
