Question about series

From what I saw, it seemed to be very whimsical and never really took things seriously. Is the entire series like this, or does it get serious? This is a real question, not trolling, just curious. I don't mind comedy at time times, but I usually prefer anime that are mostly serious. Thanks in advance!
