is ther a topic like this..~

the wave of cg animated films has been hitting the west for past 5-7 yrs, i have no idea how hell they make so much money and why people see them, all they got is celebrity star voice acting and mass advertising id say

i was reading enterntainment weekly and they had top25 action movies, they had number 1 was die hard, and 25 was that cg movie the incredibles, i was like WTF how dare u let that crap be mentioned with die hard

so i dunt get why anime films havent been working in the US, nausicaa, princess mononoke had some big celebrity actors

if japan investors somehow got some testosterone and mass advertise and money backed anime in the US, think theyd make it ?

What the hell is untouchables? If you're talking about "The Incredubles", that movie was excellent.

What was wrong with it? I mean I know what it's like to sit through a movie and not stand it, but usually and for the most every movie I see in the future I've made it a priority to sit through the whole thing to see if it gets better.

i see your point but the problem is not the japanese investors and advertising. its that the majority of the american population just doest know about or care about much of it. also these shows are pretty old by now and its not something that would apeal to the new generations. also american people would rather watch something made by the american people cause it is directed towards them.

i dont 100% hate the incredibles / cg films, i just dunt get why theyre accepted so easily, anime has a lot of lame jokes etc but to me almost every joke in movies like shrek, incredibles, ice age is lame, wat was in shrek fart gags? wooo, incredibles they had that fat dude couldnt put on his tights for like 10min awesome, ice age some beaver or w/e playing football with a melon $100mil well earned

im still disgusted entertainment weekly had the incredibles in top 25 greatest action movies of all time

the only cg movie i liked was antz and that new rat chef movie looks decent

Well there's more to America CG-animated films than jokes. Pixar movies are not only the pioneers but hey also have great stories and characters, that's why they''re so successful.

They're just accepted easily because people like them, there's nothing more to it. To many Americans they're cute, have good animation, charming characters, the works. It's not as if every one that comes out is well-received, but considering where CG is now there's not much to offer so far. I mean the multitude and sheer variety of cel-animated works, both high-quality and low-quality, is so high and has evolved so much cel-animation has been around for so long. CG-animation was in it's prmitive stages in only the last few decades and hadn't really taken off until the 90s. In the last few years things have started to catch on and stabiize. That why with the relative youth of the format combined with the current Hollywood environment, we're currently mostly only seeing a few CG-movies that more often than not are family-friendly fare that follows the formula Pixar created.

im not sure all the studio names now, but pixar's antz def had like a certain magic in it but that was like 10yrs ago, todays cg movies are just milking the sequels, the first titles had a pretty decent story overall like the first shrek and first ice age, but how many sequels they gonna go ? the story just gets more lame so they throw in up to date jokes

Sequels are pretty underwhelming in general. I know after seeing "Shrek the Third" today I thought, "No more, no more!" Seriously, it sucked. And "Antz" was done by Dreamworks, not Pixar, unless you're thinking of "A Bug's Life".

"Shrek the Third" was almost like fanservice to me. Just some of your favorite cute characters come back with some more cute jokes in a cookie-cutter storyline. And hey, people loved "Shrek", so they automatically watch this movie, and many love this too, even though it sucks, because it's "Shrek", except it lacks a lot of what made the original one great in the first place.

It's kind of like "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children". It was just fanservice, it sucked, but people just gobbled it up anyway.

how can u fan service shrek ? u see shrek cosplayers ? shrek 3 is for all the lil kids who dunt know wtf going on and dont remember the other 2 so they can take their parents,

they got nothing else to watch thats why theyre watching it, if they knew about anime i think theyd watch, u remember my neighbour totoro, that hit the US pretty good back then like a generation of kids back then knows about it

and if theres gonna be a shrek4, eddie murphy needs to shoot someone

Yeah on tv they all say that shrek 3 is so amazing and stuff.. And that its interesting and a good story even for parents to watch.... In my opinion it sux...
The jokes are boring... I dont like the green ogre thing etc. etc.
Of course there is in all this a deeper thought but still its basic...

I just kept thinking what those guys should think when they watch their first anime...

Edit: I just realize that, this might be the worst grammatical english post i've ever posted ^-^

What I mean by fanservice is that they're rehashing some the elements of the first "Shrek" for the sake of pure entertainment-value and pleasing the established audience's expectations instead of just trying to make an overall good movie. And yes I also agree on the whole just-something-for-parents-to-take-their-kids-to-see.
