It only stutters for the first hour when they upload a new episode which is perfectly normal. Let's just say a host with 1Gbps upload speed and millions people are streaming all at once. What do you think the possibilty will be? Of course, after 1-2hours, less people watch it and everything goes back to normal. This happens all over internet. Unless if crunchyroll is getting DDOS which is very unlikely going to happend. :P

hey buddy, When I'm on funimation. Theres no lag at all even if its a new realease.. why would CR lag if funimation dosen't ?

CR and Funimation use different Content Distribution Services. Both CR and Funimation hire a third party company to stream their videos. Neither Funimation or CR are streaming the videos directly themselves.

Akamai, the CDS company that CR uses may not perform as well as the company Funimation uses. Funimation is a much larger company with a lot more money than CR so they are able to afford more and better services. Also, Funimation may even use more than one CDS. CR just has the one.

Companies like Netflix and Hulu use several CDS services to stream their data because they can afford to do so.

CR is the one we're paying, therefore CR is the one responsible.

Akamai is one of the largest CDNs out there... They provide services to all these companies (http://www.akamai.com/html/customers/customer_list.html), and they have a revenue of 1.2 billion USD.

Under normal circumstances, there's NO WAY they can't handle CR's content. I think there's some backend issue that's causing this, and the issue isn't the load capacity.

That is why CR is trying to figure out why there are people with video issues. It seems some of Akamai's servers are not performing that well, which is why many times refreshing the page several times to get the video player to connect to a different server from Akamai can solve the issue. I am sure they are working with Akamai to address these performance issues. What makes it more complicated is that not everyone is having these issues.

I'm not saying CR isn't responsible, I was only trying to help clear up some confusion and try and shed some light on the fact that this isn't a simple problem that CR can fix over night.

Agreed, but some, including me, have been experiencing these problems for months.

Yup getting this issue still and appears there are lots of other topics going on about it

http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-779280/streaming-problems-with-new-shows
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-779851/getting-video-studder
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-779087/video-freeze-every-few-minutes

Bjaker commented on one of the threads "Talked to Ops and they had a look at numbers and server stress 'n what not.
They're going to work on some temporary relief to help resolve this issue before we can fully resolve the problem."

Here's hoping gents!

I think if CR is responsible for these occurrences. therefore we need to get a refund or something to compensate people that didn't enjoy their premium membership. This is kinda getting annoying to have these problems. Some people can't even enjoy the 1080p and 720p so what's the point of the yearly subscription? I'm sure we fill a complaint there's a way they can give us something at least. Some people have been enduring these problems for over 3 months.

As I said, I am not disagreeing with those who are not happy with the service.

Each server has different hardwares, you can't expect everything to be the same. Major streaming websites such as youtube won't lag cause of it has top notch awesome server hardware. I'm not implying that crunchyroll doesn't, it depends how much money they invest into it and what is used. I know funimation has been out there over ten years before crunchyroll did, maybe they can afford better things that crunchyroll doesn't? I haven't used funimation before cause it's blocked in Canada. From what I've heard, there were a few rumors going around that's about funimation having the same stutter lag.

From what I heard they use Akamai to enhance their stream performance . I'm not quite sure if it's in top notch server hardware but there's definitely something Crunchyroll has to do to improve their performance on videos. See more at http://www.akamai.com/html/about/press/releases/2009/press_060909.html

The only solution would be to ask Akamai directly to make a changes but this requires time and I'm not quite sure when it's gonna be settled.
