I think I only noticed one change made so far, and it was a very minor one. (Namely, which of Haru's friends asked him for money, early on.) Nothing else stood out to me as being too different. Even the omake are present, after the end credits. I only hope that the whole story gets animated!

Clannad after story is almost too depressing, but the ending manages to pull it around to a happy ending in a weird deus ex machina kind of way.

It is called Suzuka. It has a fair bit of drama in it but still feels down to earth. Besides the harem feel to it, it is very possible for something like this to happen. The manga was better but the anime is worth a watch by far. Again it is a bit slower paced but it has a realistic feel to it. Here is a list of what I would consider romance anime's that I liked and why. Just an FYI, I don't like tragedies or shows/manga without an ending. Some of these are included just because they have a nice love story/side story included. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Itazura na kiss - It is a cute anime that isn't to serious but goes a lot farther then just "They got together. The end." Ai Yori Aoshi - An impossible story, but I like it because it shows that you can make love work if you want it to. (Manga ONLY) Gundam 08th MS Team - I like it because people will go to any lengths for love. Oh My Goddess - Just another fun one to watch. Nothing too serious again but still fun. Rurouni Kenshin - Lots of great fights, Great story, and has a nice little bit of romance to it. Outlaw Star - Lots of great fights, fun story, and has a nice quirky love story. Shakugan No Shana - Beautiful artwork and again another good romance theme. Blue Gender - Not the happiest show ever (Very Dark) but a great love story again. Very worth the watch. Lots of action. Zero no Tsukaima - Cheesy as hell but It is great for the comedy and love/hate relationship in it. Fate/stay night - Lots of action, suspense, drama, and has a nice romance undertone His and Her Circumstances - Slow, low butdget, but still a great show non the less. (Manga definitely worth the read) Kimi Ni Todoke - Just beautiful. Semi-Slow, Slice-of-Life. Also... Busou Renkin, My Hime, Shingetsutan Tsukihime, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, RahXephon, Vandread, Elemental Gelade, Lamune, Eureka Seven, Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure, Onegai Teacher and Twins, Emma Victorian Romance, Inuyasha Final Act, Macross Plus, Macross II Lovers Again. I will stop now.

I'm going to second Angel Beats and Ano Natsu de Matteru as anime you would probably like, since they're unnatural circumstances with strong romantic stories. Another one you might be interested in is Kanon, which is a great romantic story with some fantastical elements. I might recommend Another if you haven't seen it yet. Pretty good horror anime with some romance in it. I also really liked the way Amagami SS was presented, where each girl was her own "series", although it doesn't have any supernatural elements to it.
