If I were to read a textbook on anime, I would be more interested in reading a history of anime (including the industry, and what was going on in other media and Japanese society that may have effected it), and the storytelling devices and tropes that it has originated, and how they have evolved over the years. Because that's something I haven't learned just by watching anime.

This would be interesting to read.

That would be pretty interesting. If you could make an encyclopedia of anime/manga, you might end up having to make multiple volumes. I would definitely read it :3

Definitely wouldn't read it. Not that I wouldn't find it interesting or enjoyable, but there are many, many, many more things that I would read first, and many of them are textbooks.

With that said, I'm also not sure it would be such a good idea. When you set out to write a book (especially a textbook), you are claiming yourself as an expert in the field you're writing on, and possess some sort of knowledge that would be otherwise difficult or troublesome to find. To which I ask: What is it that the textbook would focus on? Encyclopedia of shows? Themes? Literary devices? Philosophical Implications? History of the medium? Criticisms? There is a rather large body of work already that some very smart people write in their spare time, and I'm not sure the book would offer anything of interest that is otherwise currently unavailable to me.

Anyways, it's almost a year late, so it probably doesn't have much relevance anymore, but hopefully the thoughts might be interesting to someone.
