It's true that most anime have a break around New Years, but it's not necessarily before. The break week usually starts around the 29th, so there's a good chance that a episode will air on the 27th (but who knows if it's a rerun or not).

Edit: Looks like I was wrong, no ep on Dec 27 after all. I was basing my date on the fact that a Gintama episode aired on the 27th a few years back, but I guess it's different every year. There's no episode on the 3rd of January either though.
