Who here is disturbed by the poorly made music in the 21st century?

Honestly, it depends on your tastes. I'll admit i don't listen to the radio much anymore, but there are artists who love music and making music and its actually good music. So i suggest we start a list of artists from this generation that rock. heres mine:
Florence + The Machine Mumford and Sons Janelle Monae Franz Ferdinand Ellie Goulding Class Actress Foster the People Fun. |

There is a great deal of music today which by no means accords to the rules of music. Tends to be allover the place and makes no sense.

I generally have no problem with the music today. As long as people don't force me to listen, and I choose to listen on my own accord. I try my hardest not to be biased when it comes to music.

Justin Beiber, Nuff said. Gotta love little girls and pedophile moms for keeping that douche around. |

I don't really even bother with the radio anymore. They just end up playing the same 5 songs over and over til they're dead. If someone else is controlling what you listen to, how much of it you hear and how many times it's played throughout the day as well as how much of a variety you get, it can start to sound boring and generic really fast even when some of it is actually pretty decent stuff. At least, that's been my experience.

Nah, there's so much good shit out there.
You want o listen to some really awful music, listen to 80s music that was lost in time and never got popular enough to be remembered. Radio is dead though... not the music itself, but how often they play it. |

Look, i hate the current music trends as much as the next person, but it's really not as black and white as it's being made out to be. Sure, we know of all this great music from the 60's through to the 80's, but that's the thing... we only know the great stuff. There's no doubt countless bands and singers from the same time period who were just as terrible as the Bieber's and Beyonce's of today, and they're not remembered, just like most of the crap now won't be remembered 30 years down the line.
Every generation has it's fair share of bad music (to say the 80's was a good decade is pushing it when you look at the general scope of bad 80's music). I will say there is a LOT of generic stuff released now, and a lot of this trouble did begin in the 80's with the advent of MTV as it shifted the focus to visuals from being just about the music. Now, if you're pretty you can get by on auto-tune, which is a sad fact, but we do still get some great stuff now - you just need to know where to look. And for the record, mass produced corporate pop is always going to sell by the bucket load, and businesses like money, so it's not hard to work out why we have so much of the stuff. Just as suggestions though, you could always check out stuff like Fiona Apple (I know she started in the 90's), Joanna Newsom, God is an Astronaut, Adele (not a huge fan, but can't argue that she's talented) and many others. Open up to new genre's and you'll find music with much more substance. |

Just stay away form the radio, and listen to the music you do like on an iPod or Phone like I do,

Also hip hop gets insanely better every year. I can't stand 90s rap.

I'm fine with today's music but for those who dislike it we now have Spotify, Slacker, Sirius, and Pandora, so you can still listen to what you like.
