It is because so many songs that are popular now are based off of making money. Teens like music, so why not make songs about what teens like? This include love songs, partying, ect. Also, a bad voice with a good image wont sell so why not make that pretty girl have an amazing voice as well with some computer work? It's all about money now, and less and less about making good music.

Pop music is made for mass consumption and money, and that's it. Artistic merit doesn't even figure into it. If you really want to find some good music you gotta dig for it. Either in the crates or the deep underground of the interwebs, but beware of hipsters proclaiming false prophets. That shit will be a distant memory in 2 months... it is what is is... Also Spotify is the best thing for finding new music. It's essentially a search engine for music.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Thank god someone brought this up. Topic crosses mind at least once a week. I cannot even remember last U.S. new song that i liked. Singers/musicians should really pay attention to Asian market music is much more attractive as are the singers voices. You know something is wrong when you would rather listen to songs that you cannot understand w/o translating than listening to ones in your own language.

Bad music is bad music. Be it produced in 1967 or 2012.

This topic is very pretentious, by the way. But I'm just as snobby as all of you guys, so I'll chip in.

I believe that the overall quality of music is on a decline because taste has changed for the worst. People have a lower standard. That is the only reason I can think of. It's the only way Lil Wayne, Niki Minaj, Justin Bieber, and other garbage "musicians" can make it. The majority seems to enjoy that type of music, so it will succeed. If you want to do something about it, go protest outside of walmart or something. That's the real way to create change!!

Honestly I wouldn't say it's just bad music I would just say the better music is harder to find. I can't lie and say I don't like Alex Claire or even Gackt maybe some Eminem or dropping by to see Pink Floyd I'm upon to all music and think some people just go with what others think. I just can't listen to gospel or country.

Allot of the stuff I listen to is EDM, and in that world some pretty nice music has been coming out lately. Especially from those little known indie artists.

I don't listen to rap or hip hop as part of my plan to avoid the music I dislike listening to.

I love how people like to critique music that they arent accustomed to and dont understand. If the music is so bad, why is it so popular? People love saying crap like "Music is not as good as it used to be" and that simply isnt true.

1.) If you dont like it dont listen to it because the artists couldnt care less about your opinion if its not your taste.

2.) Music isnt better or worse than it used to be, its just different. If youre a semi-intelligent adult human being, you should be able to accept that.

3.)Catchy hooks that are easy to remember are what have always topped the billboard charts so I dont see the problem with the song "Black and Yellow (referring to the Pittsburgh Steelers, since thats where Camron Thomaz is from). Also, Aubrey Graham didn't invent vibrato, its just part of his repertoire like other artists so I dont see an issue with the song "No Lie".

How can you support music that objectifies women and promotes unhealthy behavior?
