I love how people like to critique music that they arent accustomed to and dont understand. If the music is so bad, why is it so popular? People love saying crap like "Music is not as good as it used to be" and that simply isnt true.

1.) If you dont like it dont listen to it because the artists couldnt care less about your opinion if its not your taste.

2.) Music isnt better or worse than it used to be, its just different. If youre a semi-intelligent adult human being, you should be able to accept that.

3.)Catchy hooks that are easy to remember are what have always topped the billboard charts so I dont see the problem with the song "Black and Yellow (referring to the Pittsburgh Steelers, since thats where Camron Thomaz is from). Also, Aubrey Graham didn't invent vibrato, its just part of his repertoire like other artists so I dont see an issue with the song "No Lie".

this is one of the worst arguments I've ever seen for defending a multi billion dollar BUSINESS that is the music INDUSTRY. That's all it is, find a girl or boy with sex appeal make them sing a few hooks with a terrible voice that needs to be auto tuned, dress the girls like sluts and make them perform in music video's with blatantly satanic symbolism and spend millions on marketing and you have a hit! Saying "if the music is so bad, why is it so popular?" is facile, the masses are ignorant and couldn't care less about aesthetics are musical quality, people just follow each other like sheep and still think they're unique. music isn't an art form in the mainstream neither is it a tool for expression, none of them even know how to play an instrument or sing nicely how can you say it's just "different". I at least think these "music artists" should be more responsible with their younger audiences, they're highly impressionable.

Im not defending the music industry. Im defending the hip hop, rap, and R&B genres.

Dude, thats all its ever been and as far as the "satanic" symbolism, you do realize that directors create the music videos and not the artist right? So a lot of this satanic crap you claim to see is from the influence of the directors.

music isn't an art form in the mainstream neither is it a tool for expression, none of them even know how to play an instrument or sing nicely how can you say it's just "different".

Thats just your hipster opinion. Also, you have no clue what artists actually know how to play an instrument. You're just forming an opinion based off of ignorance. Kinda like the ignorant masses you were describing.

Bottom line. It sounds like you dont know much about the music industry or music overall for you to sit there and make your biased and blatantly ignorant assessment. Also, the artists aren't the fans parents. They dont have to be responsible for younger audiences, especially since the younger audiences arent allowed to buy music with explicit content. The responsibility lies with the parents who allow their children to buy music with explicit content.

Wtf are you talking about? you know nothing about me, stop with the personals. Not even going to bother arguing with a fool that throws up gang sings in his avatar. Take it as a hint that you're the only person with the opinion that theirs nothing wrong with hip hop, rap and r & b and fyi hip hop isn't a genre it's a culture.

Honestly...if you don't wanna listen to it, don't. It's not that hard to turn off the radio or ask someone to change the station. Seriously. I do it all the time. Or i just shove ear buds in my ears and listen to my mp3/ipod/whatever. I do have to agree though, that music has changed since the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s..but that i think isn't all that bad. Not all the music we have now is horrid.

But i myself don't like alot of it. Nikki and a lot of the 'newer' rappers i dislike, but mostly because im used to the old school rap and hiphop as it brings back good memories of my childhood. Sure some of it wasn't appropriate for a young child as myself then, but i wasn't naive enough to think 'Oh, well..they're famous and rich doing this.. SO I SHOULD TOO 8D' No. It's not the music that causes children to act up, its their own choice and also the parents. If the parents didn't want them to listen to the music then they shouldn't allow their kids to listen to it. Or correct their behavior. As well as making those ignorant enough to think all african americans act/look/behave/sound/think like they do. I've dealt with this before so i know. People just can't cope with things like change well, and would much rather reject it all together.

A lot of people like R&B, Hip hop and Rap. Those three are a big thing in America and overseas. If there is something wrong with those, then there's something wrong with pop and rock, as are all the others. hip hop and rap aren't the only 'satanic' things in music. Rock and Heavy metal and the likes are as well. If you want to criticize a certain genre... criticize them all.

CLarose's comment may have been an opinion, but so is yours and everybody else's on here. No one person thinks like the other. Everyone has their own beliefs. So in reality, someone was bound to argue with you as they are now. I may saw i don't like 1D or Justin Bieber (Which i certainly dont :l) but others may say they're the best artist out there. I may say the same about Big Time Rush (i like them, but they're aren't all that good. Lucky they're cute >.> ), and someone else may say they suck. I simply shrug it off and continue to listen to what i want to listen to and not what i don't.

Ps.....that pic above burns my eyes e-e

There was good music made back then and there was also terrible music made back then, the same can be said about the music now really it depends on your taste in music and whether it is popular or not.

I think there is plenty of good music made now a days. Most people would say that almost all of the music now sounds the same or that it isn't original and it's true but over many years music has evolved and so many variations of music have been made. Now you can't listen to anything without comparing it to something else because chances are it's already been done.

Either way if you look hard enough you will find great music. Just have faith in the world wide web because there are so many more artists out there who now have easy access to promoting their music.

It depends on your taste in music. The music made back in the 80's and 90's may seem like the 'bad music' you think that the mainstream music is. Personally, I listen to music depending on my mood. Electro when I'm in the party mood, classic/blues when I'm chillin' with my family, and mainstream pop and rock when I game.

The corporate labels have always promoted whatever garbage would appeal to the lowest common denominator, and as they've become run more and more by businessmen and less by people who actually care about music, they've gotten worse about it. But this just means that you need to dig a little farther; there is just as much good music being made now as there was in the past, just stop listening to the radio and take a look through some good music sites instead.

The good news is that thanks to the internet and the resulting non-scarcity of digital music, a lot of musicians are able to distribute their own material instead of relying on middlemen (in other words, the record labels). This allows for much greater artistic freedom than the old system ever gave.

I was like the OP for years. I hated modern music and stuck almost entirely with stuff at least 20 years old.

Then the Internet made it better. Go to last.fm or pandora and open a free account, spend a couple of months rating tracks as you listen to them. Go buy cheap albums on the amazon mp3 store.

I've got more good *recent* music available to me now than I've ever had in my life. I just had to work for it a little bit.

Meh I don't really like much songs with the lyrical content...its ether too negative or involves sex , getting drunk , etc. Then I get stereotyped that if you're a girl you should like Justin Beiber and etc its getting a tad annoying...

Can't lose hope yet though now that I joined Pandora I finally found some music to download that I can enjoy. Then theres music forums where you can listen people who make their own music , then there is the artists who upload their work to youtube for others to enjoy. I've been recently getting into Celtic music and most of my playlists is music made by self - taught artists and whatnot.

Back in a few years ago I would agree but to be honest, there is some good music out there if you look hard enough or outside the radio.

There's Adele if you're lookin' for music with a blues and soul edge to it.
Nowadays, every artist out there is trying to go techno with their music and honestly, I like it.
But me, I love techno and rave music so that's just me.
As far as metal and rock goes, there's nothing really new or really hooking enough but then again, my tastes in metal lean toward the late 70s and 80s heavy metal when metal was at its peak creative wise. My favorite's are Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, and a little bit of GunsN'Roses.

Everybody's free to like whatever they wish but you still have to keep your ear open to current music or else, you'll end up time-zoning in whatever era your music came from.

Yeah. I agree. I don't believe that lyrics should focus on negativity or involve sex or getting drunk unless there's actually a point to it. The key to good music is focusing of positivity and focusing on the good things in life although I'm not talking sunshine and rainbows. That's too positive. XD

There's nothing wrong with applying politics or focusing on society's standards right now as long as it makes you think and isn't out to completely say that there's no hope for humanity.

I agree, Pandora is the best radio program out there.

Listening to International Pop got out of my interests list.
Franz Liszt Grand Galop Cromatique is rocking and provoking. Too damn cool song to play on the piano.
No need for dubstep here really XD. This is electrifying!

I do agree that some music is crap, but most of it out nowadays is stuff I just personally don't want to listen to. i mostly just listen to songs that have a good beat to it, not really caring what is being sung about or who is singing.

now there is a dude in Australia that i was told about, and he seems to be really good. This is just more to my taste though.

It's a thread about that subject I didn't start moaning about it haha, I don't watch tv or listen to the radio to be bothered by it, in fact I'm very happy we have our own underground movements for particular genre's of music for the real fans to be a part of. I think that there is a difference between old school hip hop which was never aimed at kids anyway... however you were exposed to that as a kid was not from it being unavoidable, I also used to listen to music with explicit lyrics from young but it never effected me because I was too innocent to know what any of it really meant. Now the airwaves are packed with girl singers selling sex to children and there's it's sickening because it's all set up that way. But what do I care, my kids will be growing up on nothing but uk hip hop. You said that it's not the artist or the record labels fault for exposing children to this and their parents responsibility, but not many parents can look after their damn kids anymore, part of the problem why this generation is screwed is because these ridiculously sexually oriented lyrics are normalized. Kids are still impressionable and should be taught right from wrong by having lyrics like "whips and chains excite me" and "you a stupid hoe" broadcasted every damn second of the day they think it's Ok. there's nothing wrong with hip hop, rap or r&b there's a problem with the people using it in the wrong way.

The 21st century has produced:

Florence and the machine (no expense spared on production or quality control there)
Of monsters and men
Arcade fire
Lady gaga (love or loathe her she is going to be remembered as an icon, just as much as any from the past)
Emilie autumn
ADELE(another girl who is going to be remembered for a loooooong time to come)

Etc, etc...

When it comes to the past people are very selective about what they remember, for every Nirvana there was a 2 unlimited, just as an example. There has been loads of shitty music throughout the 20th century that people bought in their droves, they just choose not to remember it and whine about the state of today's music when you have more choice than ever before.

Fortunately youre not being forced to listen to the crap. There are these AMAZING new things called CDs and mp3s and awesome music players such as Pandora and Last.fm. Its almost like youll never have to hear crap you dont want to hear again. I know I dont. So...In conclusion....if you wanna kick it old skool and bust a fresh beat from back in the day, you can do it at will. Dont thank me. Its a gift.
