Republicans really need to rebuild their entire party from the ground up. Too many old men with old ideas pulling the strings.
Need to rip it all down an rebuild it slightly to the right of the middle. Ditch the extremists and bible thumpers and focus on winning over the normal people. |

I'd have more respect for them if they were at least consistent about it. Such as it is, I can't take what they have to say seriously. I really wish that I could, but taking the standpoint that the worse the country gets, the better they look as an "alternative" to the incumbent is not a respectable mindset for me. One point regarding Fox News. Aside from the fact they were officially reclassified as "entertainment news" and not a news outlet... One great example of "the other side of the story" they presented was in the case of so-called "death panels". The fact: This was to allow patients to speak with their doctor regarding possible end of life care, and bill their private insurance for the cost of the consultation, rather than pay out of pocket. Nothing other than a conversation between a patient and their doctor, in the case they become incapacitated, and incapable of directing their own care. " But then they were present to happily pose for photo ops with the big checks when the measures passed anyway...as if they wanted to make it seem they supported them all along. " The majority of Repubs were against the stimulus. Obviously as a Representative, if you are going to have money spent, they would like to bring some back to their state, but they would rather have not spent the money at all. Thegovernment gets to decide who gets the care and who does not. Thats the definition of a death panel. The government would decide if you could get the care or not, because they have to ration costs. Rationing is essentially a nice coded word for death panels. Click to show or hide So it's fine if they vote against something that will benefit their constituents, take any and every measure to delay or block its passing, then take credit for it when it passes anyway? (EDIT: After thinking about that for a while, it seems incredibly tsundere-like. That's a scary thought... ) It's akin to taking a sledgehammer to construction work on your own house, then taking pride in the fact it got completed. That's my issue with the obstructionist mindset. Why should we accept that childish mentality? I want our politicians to work together, for the benefit of all of us, regardless of party affiliation. Not just for their wealthy friends' tax breaks, not just so they'll have guaranteed speaking engagements after they leave office, but for the good of the country, and because it's their damn job. They often won't; or they'll move the goalposts back repeatedly, then claim the other side didn't "compromise enough". Enough of that bullshit. One can't legitimately argue that obstruction at any cost is making this country better. It's not increasing the minimum wage, or lowering the cost of living, or reducing the income disparity. It's not providing jobs for much of anyone other than lobbyists and ad agencies. Meanwhile, superPACs are free to throw unlimited amounts of money around, with no real accountability for where that money is coming from, and even less accountability for truth in advertising. This is not the sort of job creation we need right now, because it's not sustainable. We also have far too many single issue voters, which is in itself a huge problem. Ignorant of or apathetic to most other issues, anyone who appeals to that wedge issue, particularly using fear-based tactics, will likely get their vote. The more polarized the population is about certain issues, the less likely they'll work together, even on the issues in which they do agree. Sadly, it also makes the population much easier to control through propaganda, which is ultimately the reason for this divisiveness to exist. As for the death panels issue, you're arguing against the public option, i.e. socialized medicine, while the term "death panels" was used initially for exactly what I described. As we are arguing two related, but separate concepts in context, this part of the discussion will not foster any mutual understanding. I dont know what you mean by take credit. Republicans in the majority of the sense did not vote the Stimulus passed. (I like Tsunderes :D) Though if there were people who said they did not want the stimulus, and then take credit for it, then yeah that is hypocritical. I was more or less talking about things like Earmarks, where Representatives to a state regardless if they are Repub or Dem bring money to their state because they have to represent them. Now loading up an earmark with money and voting against it would be a principled thing to do. I really dont think Republicans are taking pride in a stimulus, or any government spending in general. And whats this idea that being obstructionist is bad? If Dems wanted to bring back slavery and Repubs were being obstructionist about it, would you complain? Obviously not. So its not being obstructionist which is bad, it is understanding what bill Democrats wanted to pass and what effects would it have on the economy that would need to be known, and why Repubs are opposing it. Dont assume that anything called a Jobs Bill that Democrats pass is automatically a good thing. This is where Economics come into play. WHat makes you think that Repubs are only for tax breaks on the wealthy? Do you know that the wealthy pay the majority in taxes? In terms of actual dollars and percentage wise? Why should they be taxed more? Why dont we all have a flat tax or better yet, no federal taxes at all and a consumption tax so everybody keeps all of their income. What do you determine to be for the good of the country. Nice sounding platitudes wont cut it. What specific public policy proposals would you agree with and why? You automatically assume that being obstructionist is bad. You think that any change is progress, and since you do, that is where the faulty logic comes into play. It is possible to be regressive and not progressive. Economics 101 would tell you the market can repurpose itself if the government gets out of the way, but I wont be going into that now. What makes you think increasing the min wage is good? If somebodys skills is not worth a min wage, he doesnt get hired. That increases unemployment. Lowering the costs of living. Do you understand how to even do that? You expect politicians to do it by do you understand how this country become number 1 in the world economically? If you dont, then dont bother with asking people to do something if you dont know how its done in the first place And why is income disparity a bad thing? If I make 100k and you make 50k, the difference between us is 50k. If both of us make the same amount next year, I have a total of 200k and you have 100k, the gap is now 100k, next year I have 300k and you have 150k, the gap is now 150k. So why in the world is a gap inherently bad? Its basic arithmetic that you would have learned in elementary school math which would tell you that gaps are natural. The only reason why the Left brings up the gap is because they understand that they can say anything which shows a disparity between people and get a whole bunch of support for it. They dont have critical thinking skills to analyze data. What makes you think Superpacs are bad? Super Pacs are voluntaryily contributions, so they can spend the money how they feel like. Plus, its not like they can force you to vote for them. And if you are somebody who gets persuaded by a TV ad, then you are most likely not that much of an informed voter in the first place. I agree the job creation is unsustainable, but I attribute that to anti growth policies of Democrats than I would for Republicans. I agree that single issue voters are pathetic. But that works on both sides. So no disagreement with me here. Death Panels. Well, if the government determines who gets the care instead of you, then I find that to be exactly like a Death Panel. But we can agree to disagree I suppose. . Oh well, thanks for the chat. Off to watch some Joshiraku <3 |

^So much garbage in one post it's sad, similar to last night. I gather you're a supporter for Republicans yet don't actually look at the legislation they pass, let alone things such as why a lower minimum wage is worse, a flat tax rate would be fucking horrendous, or why income inequality matters. Like, do you have any clue about ethical conduct in politics and how the conservative right reaches the conclusions you've been fed on Fox News? Your research is so flawed, and when I read arguments from people like you, or anyone else for that matter, that hold true to these ideas I either think you're a big troll, have no clue what you're talking about, are really stupid, or just don't care about anyone else other than yourself and then try to self impose that conceitedness onto others. YOU are the reason the rest of the world looks down on America. YOU are the reason the world fears we make a stupid mistake. YOU are the reason we push a war for 8 years and then blame someone who comes after for not cleaning up well enough. YOU are the reason America is declining. YOU should keep your batshit crazy opinions to yourself. The Right tried to stare down reality in this last elections and as you saw by electoral votes they got shit on.
In any case, to directly reply to one thing in specific things like superpacs are awful BECAUSE if you look at simple statistics in presidential elections the vast majority of nominees that become president win based on money spent during campaigning. This would imply that companies that donate to a nominee then have a say in their policy because they helped that person get elected. A very simple example of this is climate change and oil companies giving shit tons of money to nominees. In turn, if someone like Romney was elected do you think we'd push forward green movement? Hell no, he'd suck their d's and pass any legislation that would give them loop holes and tax breaks even at the cost of worse harm to our climate. If you think that isn't one of the biggest problems in the 21st century you should go do some research on bioneers conferences, or simply look at the 98% of scientists who think this is the most pressing, modern problem we're going to have to deal with within the next 50 years or face irreversible damage to our planet. Personally, I like being alive, so uh, publicly funded elections with small caps that have less bias would be great. It'd be nice if, you know, a democracy was actually run by the people! |

Not long ago we were at arms with communists about this very issue. I cannot believe it. If he turns around and gets the country back in order and reduces the national debt than I will gladly say he did a good job, until then he has failed and the debt shows that. i'm amazed at all the baseless assumptions all of you are making. inform yourselves first then form your opinions, don't be like a parrot repeating things and taking them out of context. and then spewing so much crap. if you want to argue then argue with facts not baseless assumptions or emotions. FACT. Bush was the worst president we have ever had. he alone effed up our economy. before bush came into office we had zero debt. you can thank clinton for that... once bush took the office, we started a few wars. the first was meaningless. going to war with iraq was worthless. and we lost a lot of soldiers and wasted too much money on it. afganistan was also worthless. when we could have just done what obama did. send a special ops team to kill osama and be done with it. also remember that the market crash happened under the bush administration and the republicans controlled the congress after the first year effectively obstruction 90% of the things obama wanted to do and make good on his word. after obama took office we started recovering from the market crash. if you know anything about stocks you would know that the dow jones is now at almost completely recovered and on its way to reaching the record maximum. if you know anything about economics then you should know that in order for the economy to start flowing again you need to put money in. Bailout comes in, but the economy did not start working immediately because after the crash people were fearful of losing even more money or their livelihood. if you say that romney was the best choice. you should really consider going back to middle school and study more and raise your way up the education ladder. romney outsourced 100's of thousands of jobs to china and india... there is your true capitalist. what do a capitalistic wants? money but not for this country, but for himself. A capitalist economy - is basically just an economic system based on private ownership of capital. with 0 government involvement. for this refer to bush's terms in office. he deregulated many things and let the business owners and corporations make their own decisions... guess what? that did not work and he had the market crash and went into a depression (yes depression not a recession) we are finally out of that depression and have finally started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. while i do not think obama is the best president we have ever had, i do believe that currently he is the only man able to completely get us out of the mess bush got us into. now i know all of you romney sheeps will hate my post and try to retaliate. thats fine i welcome any and all arguments and specially constructive criticism. but before you speak (write) go and familiarize yourself with how the government and the economy works. then give facts and not hearsay or fallacies. make sound arguments, not emotional ones. and just to make something clear I did vote for obama and he was not my main choice but out of the ones that actually had a chance of winning he is the one that aligns itself more to my own beliefs. my main choice would have been the green party. but she obviously had no real chance of winning. and now with a democratic congress and senate you all can expect to see a bit more changes but don't expect miracles. This is complete nonsense. My rant below Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Bill Clinton increased the Nation Debt each and every single year of his Presidency. Clinton had a *surplus* because he took money from the Social Security fund with had a surplus and used to to pay down the national debt, which made it look like he passed a surplus. In short, he cooked the books. I like how you just totally marginalize all the information that was gathered in the Bush term which led to Osama being killed, and think Bush could have sent a simple task force and it would have been over shortly. The economy crashed because of the Dot Com bubble bursting. Clinton benefited from the Dot Com Bubble Boom, and then it burst in beginning of Bush term. Reason was because the federal reserve manipulated interest rates to banks and business's took loans out and invested in their companies and waited for the demand to come, but it never did, because there was no demand to begin with. It was phony growth. But I guess your talking about the Housing Crash. Do you not even have the slightest clue as to why that happened? Do you just automatically assume that if a Republican was President it must have happened because of him? We had a crash right after the Democrats got elected in 2007 because they wanted the banks to lend out money to poor minorities who naturally would have never gotten a loan because they were too risky. Gov was threatening action against the banks using the Community Reinvestment Act and then on top of that told the banks that they would bail them out if the loans went bad. What do you think the banks were going to do then? They were going to loan out to as many people as they possibly could, because they know they would get their money back either way, but having it paid back by the borrower, or having the government bail them out. The government produced the bad incentives, not wall street. And this was by a Democrat Congress, which Bush actually tried to stop. Republicans did not obstruct Obama in his first 2 years. He had complete Dem and Repub control and didnt give a damn about bipartisanship and shoved Obamacare and the rest down our throats. After failing so badly, the tea party got elected in the House to try and bring us back in the right direction. And Obama got in their way. Obama didnt even pass a budget, he sent a budget to the Dem Senate that got voted down 97-0 so that he nothing to do with Repub obstructionism, that had everything to do with his budget being such a pathetic piece of garbage that not one single Democrat voted for it. But whats with the idea that Dems didnt block Repubs? We actually passed a budget and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wouldnt even let it come to the floor. So drop this nonsense that Dems were the only ones being blocked. Rising stock prices means absolutely nothing. Inflation is what makes those prices rise, not because of some stupid thing Obama did. Plus, you let him take credit for rising stock prices, what about rising gas prices as well? Guarantee you will disagree with that. You dont know jack shit about economics. If you knew anything about it you would understand that an economy issues its own antidote to recover itself, but the government keeps getting in the way in order for it to work. Taking money from the productive and giving it to the unproductive in the name of Growing the Economy is like having 2 private Retirement accounts with the same security and one has a 30% return on investment and a 1% return on investment and you think taking money out of the 30 to place into the 1 is somehow a good economic plan. Bailouts do not work. They simply distort the economy. If Bailouts worked, then why is the unemployment rate still above 8%? Oh wait, you will just say the economy was in a worse shape then we thought so we needed to do more. Outsourcing is not inherently bad, you clearly no nothing about economics. Government intervention is the problem, which increases outsourcing, but outsourcing itself is not inherently bad. If Im making an Ipod, I could sent jobs overseas to make a certain part of the Ipod, but have jobs here in America to make the more technologically harder parts. So I create jobs here in America and in other countries as well. And what am I going to do with the money I make? Im going to invest it back into my company to increase jobs over there and here at the same time. Its not an all or nothing game. Its a mix and its a net benefit to the economy no matter how you look at it. Once again, a persons intentions is irrelevant, what matters is his actions. You complain that a capitalist wants to make money, but not anything else. Who CARES!? What matters is what his actions do, not his intentions. Capitalism has government involvement, its called protecting private property rights and resolving disputes that involves force. Bush deregulated the economy? NAME ONE SINGLE THING THAT BUSH DEREGULATED. Seriously, name one. Competition makes sures that business's cant automatically do whatever they want because if they start to overprice people will shop somewhere else. Obama is the best President? Jesus fucking christ. Im done, you clearly no absolutely nothing about how an economy works and only know how to repeat stuff thats fed to you. Sorry for being rude, but this is ridiculous |

It'd be nice if, you know, a democracy was actually run by the people! :P A minimum wage is bad because somebodies labor who is not worth a min wage does not get hired. If the min wage is 5 dollars and hour and somebodys labor is only worth 3 dollars and hour, he can not get a job because its illegal to do so. Therefore he can never get a job to earn experience to get a better job in the future. An employer would love to pay somebody 1 penny and hour and an employee would love to get paid 1000 dollars and hour, but sense the employer has to compete with other employers who will gladly pay them more and sense the employee has to compete with people who would gladly work for less, both the employer and the employee both have to come together and agree on a wage or salary that neither of them wanted in the first place, thats how free market capitalism works so that nobody gets to *exploit* each other. A flat tax rate would be horrendous? Oh please do tell. Only people who want to forcibly take as much money from people as possible to redistribute it on whatever they please Income Inequality doesnt matter, it only matters to those who are envious and jealous of other people and those who try to exploit it. Its not a zero sum game. Its simple arithmetic and common sense that would tell you that income inequality is going to happen as long as people make different incomes Ethical conduct. Thats subjective, give me objectivity, not your subjective opinions. I dont even watch Fox News, but thanks for the strawman argument anyway, bust out some more logical fallacies. Can you actually refute any of my points? Like give me evidence? I am stating basic economics and you are just using ad hominem. Your emotions are completely irrelevant to what actually happens in the world. Lets address your Super Pacs claim. That is nonsense. If I spent 100 trillion dollars advocating that 2+2=5 I would not win the election due to spending 100 trillion dollars, there are clearly other variables in the equation which determine success. Plus if you are somebody who gets swayed politically because of a TV ad, you are most likely not an informed voter to begin with. Correlation does not equal causation fallacy, not everybody who wins an election won because they spent the most money. Fail. So what if companies donate money to get them elected? Can they force you to vote for them? No? So they can only persuade you to vote for them? So is no force is done and only persuasion, just what the hell are you complaining about? Illinformed voters? Thats not because of money, thats just because people are stupid. Dont get me started on Climate change nonsense. You automatically assume that the green energy movement is right. I could counter your point by saying that the green energy movement donates to candidates who hate fossil fuels or fracking or any other non green energy source. Lobbysits exist everywhere. No I dont think climate change is one of the biggest problems of our century. Oh so now if the majority of scientists say something its automatically true? Jesus christ your now using the logical fallacy of appeal to authority. So once again, you respond to me without using any facts, logic, evidence, absolutely nothing except ad hominem attacks.
