I guess I'm alone in the reason I like this series, which was nothing related to the possible siscon stuff; instead I liked that it seemed a giant send-up of the very worst of otaku culture, by stuffing all of its most extreme stereotypes into a middle-school girl. For example, the scene with Kirino rolling around on her bed replaying "onii-chan, I love you!" was mind-numblingly hilarious, as were any scene where she had all-too-typical nerd-fights with Kuroneko over their respective anime.

By contrast, when she's not geeking out, Kirino's overall character and personality are pure fingernail-on-blackboard to me--and many people, I know. I watched the "true route" extras and had some hope that they would solve that problem by introducing the new "Kirino-lite" character of Sena as a less-obnoxious foil to Kuroneko--but that resolved quickly; and the rest of the story seemed to set up more relationship drama. That may be nice and move the story forward...I'm just not sure those are the parts that I found so funny the first time.

Meh... incest isnt that big of a deal in Japan from what I hear, its only western societies that have a negative hang-up about it. Even though I'm a westerner, I don't really care if someones related to their lover... can't really help who you fall in love with. Societies are stupid and produce more problems than they are worth. >.>

What the hell kind of statement is this. Incest is some "western hang-up?" Have you ever heard of the Westermarck Effect? Incest is a big deal in every society; no society condones it. If it was really OK in Japan, why does every one of these stories end with the cop-out of "they're not really related?"

Oh, that's just Japanese society having a hang-up like all societies that "produce more problems than they are worth?" Then go try living in the woods by yourself and see how far you get, if "society" is just one giant buzz-kill-machine.

Your statement just infuriates me because it clearly conflates fiction with reality. Or do you believe that half of all Japanese schoolgirls are really magical, too? Anime is not real life.

Well a lot of fans want the relationship, I'm of the mind that it would dilute what makes Oreimo stand above just another siscon anime. The subject of their relationship is actually complex and it is understood more and more that although on the surface seems like it would be incestuous it(as far as the anime up until now is concerned) is simply a sister wanting to reconnect with her brother even if she herself doesn't "get it." Obviously though with a name like My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute you will expect some siscon, but all that amounts to is Kyosuke glancing at his Kirino once in a blue moon, the anime is very light on fanservice and it is better for it. Also Kyosuke confirms his "relationship" to Ayase as well as Saori and Kuroneko having their suspicions.

I don't really see why everyone hates Kirino so much though, then again I love her so that's probably just my bias talking.

You have said half what I wanted to say, I commend you on that. Although I would have to disagree about Kirino, although a fair amount people find tsundere's to be attractive, Kirino would be classified as one with 95% tsun and 5% dere, and that is a little too much for even the hardcore fans.

In regards to moral issues, yes it is bad. Most animes use this genre but do not usually follow through with it, again it is because of morals that have been recently changing in Japan. Decades ago you would actually see animes of which followed through with the incest , now it's almost non-existent. With the exception of
Other than that, the theme still exists but it is ameliorated with the famous quote "not actually related by blood"

Glad someone brought genetics into the topic of controversy.

Too many people think that if two close relatives have a child together, it will automatically be some horribly deformed monster, or at least have genetic abnormalities, when in fact the odds are in favor of it being perfectly normal (although on average those odds are lower than for two unrelated people).

Take two couples for example:

(1) An incestuous couple with no recent family history of any medical conditions that are genetically inherited.

(2) An unrelated couple, both of whom have a number of inherited medical conditions in their recent family history.

Which do you think would have the best odds of having a healthy baby?

#1 of course, because reproduction only passes on the genes that are already there.

Inbreeding for multiple generations will always lead to problems, however. Even with a healthy genetic background, undesirable genes will eventually express themselves, given enough chances; it is like playing Russian roulette with a gun with a lot of spaces for bullets.

Yeah I mean remember your history class folks, royalty was inbreeding for generations. Most turned out normal but after a while you'd get something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_II_of_Spain.

I know she confesses to him, I hope she ends up with him. Kirino won't end up with him.

I've always felt like KirinoxKyousuke wasn't going to happen but I'd like to stay unspoiled as much as possible until I finish watching season 2.

Kirino is a pretty terrible person, especially to her brother. All of that I could get passed since its her brother, but that episode where she was so incredibly rude to Minami. That was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

I totally agree with you about Kyosuke and Kirino's relationship though. I imagine they were close as kids and then as Kyosuke hit puberty and his adult persona started to develop he became more of a loner. Kirino's attitude being a response to it, and her fetish for sister related galge seems like compensation for the relationship she lost with her brother. I think the whole eroge thing is just a plot to device to insure that she can't tell everyone about her hobbies, allowing her brother a way back in. Atleast that's what I'm hoping, if they end up together it would totally spoil it for me.
