Sword Art Online MMO?!
|
Ever since I started watching SAO I've wanted an SAO MMO game for PC. It would be unbelievably good if they put the time into it don't you think? That, Alfheim Online or one of the later ones...
I heard about the upcoming 'SAO: Infinity Moment' game and got all excited, and was kind of upset when I found out it was a PSP game. Any thoughts on the matter? |

Personally i'd find it kind of confusing a game in a game where your character is playing a game???
Just kidding it would be worth playing a trial of 1 month but personally i wouldn't play it any longer then 3 months. |

I think it would be pretty awesome but if there was a "real" Alfheim Online I think many would go rogue and just kill everything.

I'd play it for sure
Even if it isn't a VR (It's a let down, but whatever :)) |

it depends on the dynamics of the game. I like combat infused with magic, al la WoW, but if done right non-magic MMO would peak my interest.

I participate in Dagorhir (a full contact sport referred to as a battle game) and we don't use magic (unlike LARP there is more ties to reality in the way it's presented fighting wise but character wise you can be anything) so it's basically SAO without Sword Skills or Alfheim without magic and just that alone takes a lot to pay attention to. It's pretty easy to have a good eye of the field when you're say, playing WoW and are main taking a raid boss you can generally see everything going on. But when you're in first person and you're moving a lot your vision will start to focus in and even your own movements start to sort of not get realized when you're fighting. On top of that you have to realize all of the formations and battle tactics that go on just in a non magic combat scenario and things can get pretty dicey out there.
Imagine the scene where Kirito is just straight up swinging with complete disregard at Heathcliff and it progressing in to more chaotic swings even before triggerig the Sword Art. That's basically how it becomes when you start fighting anyone stronger than you, or some one that just doesn't let up. Sometimes it becomes a mental thing and you could get more wrapped up in just analyzing them and trying to guess when to strike. So it's always "interesting". But I will say that if SAO ever is a reality then it would have to have one hell of a customer support behind it. People will develop acute PTSD. Or may just as well develop or a sort of lust for combat that carries over to the real world. |

We're close technologically.
http://www.oculusvr.com/ Now, to get a developer to couple it with something like http://www.neurosky.com/Products/MindWaveMobile.aspx We get the closest thing to NerveGear for now. |

Yeah it would be the upmost if we had the tech to that. Just as long as they don't play out the same story line and trap us in the game

It's definitely coming, and while it may not be here in the same sense as SAO in the next 10 years, I'd say it's a very good chance we'll have something along the lines of Denou Coil in this short(yet seemingly endless) time frame perhaps even much sooner. I've been seeing the mind reading technologies around for quite some time and they've always shown promise that it won't be long for incredible levels of control but each new version only seems to be an ever so slight upgrade over the previous. I find it doubtful that much will change in this area over the next 10 years but perhaps AR gaming will push this and give this area the much needed money to develop it faster. But as one user mentioned with PTSD from gaming, it should be taken as a very real problem and even if the tech exists it should be understood to a high degree before coming to every child worldwide. |
