I honestly won't buy the game if they come out with a similar SAO game or an exact replica. It's too much to comprehend and too many lives would be at stake. I wouldn't even support the development of the game.

Obviously, the real world equivalent wouldn't have all the "can't log out and you'll die if you're killed in-game" stuff. I thought that was pretty self explanatory...

I think most people who have ever participated in an MMO agree that they want something (virtual or not) like SAO because it wraps up nearly everything that makes an MMO enjoyable into a neat animated package.

The problem with the MMO genre - and the challenge about SAO - is it's incredibly difficult to make a game that has mastery over all the elements touched upon in that show and make them functional and manageable within the normal boundaries of a gaming company.

There's a few other lists of "what SAO" has floating around, some of which other people here have posted in - but it's a very vast list and also incomplete still.

I imagine SAO as a mix between (shh) Ultima Online. FFXI and Dragon Nest. UO has, in my own opinion, the skill system that every game should incorporate in some fashion as well as a housing system that worked great. Dragon Nest has somewhat similar art and has pretty great PVP based on skill and combos - and FFXI had a vast world, terrific story and dungeons - also with a skill and job system that was very unique and challenging (how many people do you know in FFXI that had capped Parry skill? I knew 1 - and he was a god) - it's the unique quirks of many games that need to be incorporated into one game in order to make something like SAO even exist on a conceptual level - let alone making it into a game.

It would be amazing to play in the world of SAO, as long as I don't get trapped in the game.

i cant believe how close we are to achieving VR (in terms of decades)
it will most likely take 2-3 decades but we are close, and i cant wait.
on topic: i wish there was an MMO based off of SAO... but sadly no.

I'd give it a shot if it was developed, though I'm not sure how it'll turn out...

I've been trying for the longest to find a good mmo like SAO but no luck as of yet. I heard the psp version of SAO is pretty bad because it has nothing to do with the anime, but to me the game looks legit even if the plots aren't the same. I haven't played it personally so I can't really put my opinion out there. And that post with the Oculus Rift Headset link gave me hope! It looks like SAO might make it into my life time.

Yes, protecting someone in an MMORPG is just as important as protecting them IRL.

Time to go die at a net cafe.

You better be careful for what you wish for, that's all I'm saying.

I guess, without any real VR gear, it couldn't be that dangerous. But. Still. Crazy shit can happen.

Now in all seriousness, consider the nature of the game in the Manga/Anime: on one hand you have got a huge-ass range of skills (unlimited, some say), many different play-styles to use, good loot/party/exp system and a nice objective-based source of challenge. On the other hand, the game seems highly exploitable. I won't spoil anything too bad, since you said you were just starting, but there are times where it is physically impossible, by all known laws of mathematics, for some players to be beaten in some fights because they level up the right attributes, etc..

Do I want a SAO MMO? Some day, maybe. In this current day and age? Nope. I feel that an attempt at making SAO would be very different from the world we experience through the anime. The anime focuses closely on story and character interaction while there's obviously a lot of off screen grinding. With a revive system it would probably just become a generic asian mmo and even if they invested significantly into it at the current time it would be nowhere near as good as my imagination. It would probably damage the world I'm starting to love from watching the anime.

As a gamer I'm also quite tired of this trend of "let's just make an MMO" that emerged post WoW. I'd much rather see a well done single player game (coop allowed) in the world with a heavy emphasis on story than an MMO currently. For the future though if they get graphics and AI good enough in an MMO with support for VR I'd certainly would want to try it. My dream of a super immersive virtual world is very strong.

Haha, I think it would be neat. I'm pritty sure that everyone will prob have the same skills depending on what the game type is right?

ALO reminded me greatly of "Aion". I enjoyed it, and still go back now and then.
