A Sword Art Online game designed for the Occulus Rift and an improved and more accurate version of the Emotiv would be mind blowing. My college studies and my real life would very much be in real danger of utter collapse.

The graphics don't have to be so good that you can't tell the difference between real life and the game, but say on par with Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, and we'll be cooking!

These guys are working on creating a SAO MMORPG! For more information visit their facebook page:

www.facebook.com/TheSaoProject

The estimates for release are 2015-2017. They also need to obtain the copyright from the Author of SAO, then they will make a kickstarter.

If you are a fan of Sword Art Online press like and enjoy the view of daily progress!

If you are not a fan, go watch SAO and become one :<

P.S.: If some of you with 500+ CR points create a new thread in this section so that this is seen better by more people, it would be amazing!

I personally think that an SAO game would be awesome but the tech behind SAO isn't availible (even with the rift) I believe in the next 10 years it will be possilbe.

Don't expect this to happen in the next 10 years, this is why.

1)Safety precautions, there need to be many ways to disengage your mind, obviously something like microwaving your brain won't happen in real life, but many safety precautions

2)Expect especially based on Korea to see lots of limits on games and how long you can be in, precisely because your body will decay quickly

3)Expect this to be solved by a third party who creates something similar to an IV that you use with it

4)We don't have enough technology and information to directly interface with our nerves, we have no way of doing this that seems plausible near our head (read: not in a full body suit) in the next 5-10 years.

We can read thoughts, but we can't transfer input properly from our body to a signal while blocking the signal to our body and we won't any time soon, you could say two things about this however.
1)It would ruin a lot of immersion, you'd be moving IRL and need to work for that (running into walls, etc, not full immersion, worthless)
2)It would however fix the issue of your body not getting any work out.

More importantly however if you could have the signal go one way, I believe that when we do have this, we will have the ability to have our real body also actually work out while we are playing (cardio: running in place, exercising on a treadmill/stepper/stationary bike, etc).

I believe that when we reach that point, said things will fund the ability for VR MMO development and will also surpass it greatly with that technology, but because of it, it's why we would have the possibility, no one is going to do that intense research and get that for VR MMOs, but they would for the ability to reverse it and speak to our neurons while we are doing something else, controlling a virtual self to do things we don't want to do that are simple IRL, working out, resting (minus brain functions clearly), clean.

Just my two cents.

Well if samsung and this american collage (think its a collage anyway) get both things their working on ready, it might be sooner. Samsung are toying with the idea of using brain waves to open app and what not on their tablets. Their working on that now, heres a link http://www.technewsworld.com/story/tablets/77856.html

the collage has came up with thoughtpass, it only has a 1% error. But they won't release it, as they ain't happy with the way it look. heres a link http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/passthoughts-brainwave-based-passwords-reality-120116449--abc-news-tech.html

So as SAO only uses brainwaves to move the VR player it would only be a simply fact of thinking of moving, not using your nervers to move the VR person. Im not disargeeing that we will see it in the next 5 years, or saying it will take longer. Just tec is moving fast than most people think. Plus we dont know what some collages, uni's or mad sciences are up to

Sure, even a standard MMORPG without the VR part would be nice, I think. The settings of Sword Art Online, Alfheim Online and the others alone would probably be enough to carry the game adaptations, especially for the fans of the light novels, manga and anime. Of course, if it was a full VRMMORPG, it would be incredible. Unfortunately, I can only assume that could lead to some unwanted effects when/if it becomes possible.

There have already been (slight) concerns about Oculus Rift and its supposed addictiveness, not to mention a hugely improved version of that combined with the highly addictive nature of most MMORPGs. I'm sure there'd be quite a few people who would be extremely hard to get away from if it was anything like what was depicted in SAO, even if it wasn't some villain's grand scheme to lock people in to fight for their lives.

Also hi, I'm new here! *wave*

i would love to have a sword art online mmorpg that was not just a "typical" mmo. If someone makes one it needs to be something original and have something that sets itself apart from other mmorpgs. ohh what if it was rogue like!! just like the anime!! then everytime you died you would have to start over O.o

We're actually fairly close to doing this, and I can see it being possible in 15-20 years.

Has a great potential to get a lot of people playing just because of how popular the anime is, but I can't see it being a very good mmo... unless they actually developed a NerveGear helm... lol.

I feel like the closest thing to Sword art online MMO atm is Final Fantasy 14 A realm Reborn.
Sure its not Virtual Reality but the world is very much alive and it gives me the "WoW Feeling" again, not as great... but its there
