Set their houses on fire then be "conveniently" there to offer them a place to stay while they look for a new place. That's how to make lasting friendships. Also, sneaking laxatives into their food helps.
Honestly though, I guess just send friend requests and message them about things you share a common interest in. If you tell you to "go n jump of a brigde. Why r u evn takling 2 meh!?", nothing lost (besides respect for them). but if they're nice, they'll at least keep a civil conversation with you, and you might become friends.
P.S.
Anyone can become friends with me by following my cult of druids... or bribing me with hana daifuku.

Well when i was new, people just used to add me,
but they probably found me from groups and so on, as we used to talk bout shared interests etc...
Now though I'll messege someone that catches my interest,
Itz just the same with starting any conversation with someone really,
uve just got to be friendly an approachable,
but u cant expect people to just come and talk to u.
When im the one seeking entertainment or company, ^.^ ill make the lil extra effort.

If you've got one or two friends, look at their friends list and friend those people. There's a chance that they might have similar interests.

I think I've only sent 2 or 3 buddy requests before. But lots of people send me ones. (I usually accept all, and I don't think I've ever dropped anyone, though that doesn't necessarily mean we get to be "friends").
If you see someone's comment you like in a forum, check out their profile. If it looks like you have similar interests, say hi on their guestbook, and/or send a buddy request. If they respond, respond back, and see where it goes from there.

I have friends, they mostly added me. I DO talk, sometimes.
But Im mostly antisocial, unless we just talk, and talk, and....
