I'd Love ittt!! I want it NAO -.- Saw this photo on a group on here, but couldn't post anything on there, or get any info on the subject, but here goes: I know about another that has gotten pretty far towards this kind of tech. Its called the "Oculus Rift" But of course its not near as awesome as the nerve gear is But I guess its a step in the right direction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oculus_Rift It's actually coming out this January 2013. Thoughts? Its the closest thing we've got that is going in the same direction as the idea behind nerve gear It might not be similar now, but that's just the beginning, I hope that in the future you can actually do what the nerve gear does : Hehe I'm an introvert, so I wouldn't mind being cut off

The main reason for this is because there are too many idiots that would stay logged in until they died due to starvation or lack of REM Sleep. There has been reports of people that died playing World of WarCraft for not sleeping for too many days. The closest we will ever get to Virtual Reality would be a wireless helmet for a TV in a room with Motion Capture cameras setup to tracking body movement and padded walls for when you walk into them.

That shouldnt be any problem. Assuming humans actually manage to make nerve gear, they could easily implement a system that auto logs you out after a certain period of time and then your unable to log in again after X amount of hours. There would be many ways to stop constant gaming. Not to mention that it is their own fault then. Should we stop selling forks and knives aswell because some people can use them to commit suicide?

The idea of VR gaming is a really neat idea and would change the gaming world as a whole, but SAO did a real good job describing the HUGE ethical issue of being cut off from reality especially with how huge hacking has been as of late. Once we can get past that major issue it might actually happen, but I doubt it'll happen in the time that say SAO is saying or even Accel World for that matter. As for the Occulus, I can see one issue with it unless they fixed it. That those that have to wear glasses might have issues being able to use it.
