I might be posting this in the wrong section, but what do you all think about the idea of you being transported into a game?

I'd Love ittt!! I want it NAO -.-

Saw this photo on a group on here, but couldn't post anything on there, or get any info on the subject, but here goes:

I know about another that has gotten pretty far towards this kind of tech. Its called the "Oculus Rift" But of course its not near as awesome as the nerve gear is But I guess its a step in the right direction.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oculus_Rift
It's actually coming out this January 2013.

Thoughts?

EDIT:
Here are some other things I didn't know about, be sure to check it out, I won't be an ass and copy paste it into this thread, but that's something that has gotten further than the Oculus Rift!
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-782072/neuro-headset

EDIT2: (12/Nov/13)

This is a bit more discussions on Oculus Rift and how you all see it, if it's worth it. And just this awesome new feature I found *well I can't post it o.o*.
The progression of Oculus Rift! Magnificent! I just stumbled upon that video of something that has been developed and was astonished by this progress, well more or less, blown away -_- Well it happened, nothing to do about that xD

Because of obvious reasons, I wont post the link *ugh, sorry for before -_- I didn't realize after I posted it aah* It is NSFW, but I will hint you at it. .. Uhh, it's a game...that's NSFW? o.o You figure out the rest.

So how do you see the Oculus Rift coming along, do you want it, I surely want this special feature!! haha

Aaand if you don't know what it is, see these pages:

http://www.oculusvr.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oculus_Rift

Or summary :

Oculus Rift was firstly on Kickstarter, as an idea to make a console that would try to get as close as it can to be an virtual reality *console* with our current technology, of course that's a bit of a goal, but it was successfully funded and was made to be what it is, it is basically a pair of glasses you put on (Well they are giant) and gives you the field of view of the game, you see only what's in the game, which makes it more realistic. You can turn your head around, to pinpoint which way your character in the game is looking (if this is an FPS) and then you use a normal controller to move.

Oculus rift isn't remotely similar Lol. It's just a helmet with a TV in it.
Don't really fancy being completely cut off from the real world.

I LOVE the idea. But get a little paranoid, when people are talking about hacking others mind. LOL.

Its the closest thing we've got that is going in the same direction as the idea behind nerve gear It might not be similar now, but that's just the beginning, I hope that in the future you can actually do what the nerve gear does :

Hehe I'm an introvert, so I wouldn't mind being cut off

They would have to make something that confuse or "transfer" your senses into the game. I dont see scientist making something like that any time soon.

There will never be a virtual reality system that cuts your brain off of your body so that you can be in that virtual world moving around. The main reason for this is because there are too many idiots that would stay logged in until they died due to starvation or lack of REM Sleep. There has been reports of people that died playing World of WarCraft for not sleeping for too many days.

The closest we will ever get to Virtual Reality would be a wireless helmet for a TV in a room with Motion Capture cameras setup to tracking body movement and padded walls for when you walk into them.

That shouldnt be any problem. Assuming humans actually manage to make nerve gear, they could easily implement a system that auto logs you out after a certain period of time and then your unable to log in again after X amount of hours. There would be many ways to stop constant gaming. Not to mention that it is their own fault then. Should we stop selling forks and knives aswell because some people can use them to commit suicide?

I simply can't wait for this. To be able to live in an alternate world would be a dream come true, even if it was only for so many hours per day. My life would finally have meaning.

If it was the Nerve Gear I'd have to say no, Amusphere on the other hand maybe. The idea of VR gaming is a really neat idea and would change the gaming world as a whole, but SAO did a real good job describing the HUGE ethical issue of being cut off from reality especially with how huge hacking has been as of late. Once we can get past that major issue it might actually happen, but I doubt it'll happen in the time that say SAO is saying or even Accel World for that matter.

As for the Occulus, I can see one issue with it unless they fixed it. That those that have to wear glasses might have issues being able to use it.

I wouldn't mind being trapped in a game for the rest of my life, as long as it was a good one like SAO, even if you had the possibility of dieing in real life if you died in the game I'd be ok with it.

Not unless the games have a way of monitoring your body's status and an immediate shut-off system in case things get out of hand. No SAO for me without logout options either.
