.hack is a very deep and convoluted show. I recommend it because it is its own franchise, ranging from video games and anime to mangas and even the movie that came out not too long ago.
Back on topic, I would jump into a Nervgear with no regrets. In all my years, I've come to the conclusion that there is nothing that could satisfy my desires more than that.

I've previously stated that I would camp out in front of the store to make sure I was one of the first people to get something like the nerve gear. same for a VRMMO like SAO. it would be like a dream come true.

we are advancing in technology to quickly we aren't even matured enough yet for something like this its a great idea but makes you wonder ex terminator / dark hack sign / sword art online matrix/etc but what the fuck are you gonna do we have become technology's bitch i mean im on a laptop next to a xbox and tv. but i think someone needs to destroy the plans for that helmet shit like that can not be made

You have some good points i will give you that. With the danger of hacking and manipulation from the software company, nerve gear could be really dangerous. Playing in a virtual world, fighting with swords and getting sliced with no damage to the real body is a dream coming true, but like you said we arent ready. Maybe we never will >.<
Also i`d like to point out that some people wouldnt be able to tell the difference between reality and the virtual world. They might end up slicing people in real.

This technology could lead to not just simulating reality/universes is could lead to you being a simulation yourself which would also include you mind as being just a figment of a super intelligent computer's imagination. For all we know, we could all already be living in a virtual reality of our extremely advanced descendents past. We could be just be a simulation of the futures history.

I'd be all good with a Nervegear as long as they fixed all the problems everyone's mentioning, like people playing for too long, hacking, etc. Of course, if a game like SAO ever came out, I'd wait until the day AFTER release to play it. You know, find out if what happened in the anime really happened.  |

realistically speaking, there are never going to be any devices that let your brain subconscious dive into any games or anything like that and you know the "humanity" will never allow it. Even some mad scientist invent such thing, it won't be a game, the first thing they going to use it is to control other people.
The best possible way they probably going about is to let some device fool your brain into thinking you are in virtual reality.
