Virtual reality has intrigued me for years and I'm hoping that, very soon, there will be a breakthrough and we can all enjoy playing games from inside the game itself. I'd jump at the chance if it came along.

I've actually been luck enough to try out the Oculus Rift and it is absolutely amazing. It's truly another experience and obviously needs some improvement, but is definitely heading in the right direction

If the conversation still isn't over despite having a month pass, I'd like to jump in saying that since I was a kid I've always wanted to develop a virtual reality that closely resembled lucid dreaming... After reading through the comments describing a couple of the hindrances I got even more interested and more determined by the amount of people who wanted such a thing to happen..

I'm still young. I'm technically still a "kid", so to speak - but that just means that I can make steps up until the day I die - a very long time, I hope.

As a result, I just would appreciate a lot of feedback on the possibility of a virtual reality machine that would 1) void the brain processing to muscles (but still allow blood flow signals somehow) to simulate a "sleep state", 2) monitor all brain waves produced by the brain and manipulate it to satisfy the "gaming experience", and 3) as someone said earlier, trick the brain into thinking a world that has rules does not have any.

If this makes any sense, please reply and lob the idea back and forth with me - my life's dream sorta depends on this!

Once you are in the game seeing thru the game characters eyes and being able to feel the things you want it would already be quite easy to trick the brain into thinking that you are there. The Rift also tricks your brain to think you are in the game but it can make you disorientated as the brain can see the "game" but can not move the game body, once the brain can move the body in-game it will already have tricked it enough.

When and if one manages to make it then there is no need to make overly much deep detail one only needs to make it look detailed enough to not be totally blocky if you get my drift.. resources like blood or showing muscle/flesh in the cut is also un-nessesary as it will only take up to much memory of the server.

The bloodflow is not really a problem as long as you know what to disconnect. Once you have the right "brain commands" then all you need to do is disconnect the movement commands sent from the brain by re-directing it elsewhere in this case a game (more or less like SAO) thus allowing you to move inside the game instead of IRL.

All you really need to be able to create is a machine that can send and receive commands and information to and from the brain, once that is done then all one needs to do is make it better and more cheap to be able to be bought by us common people who don't have a billion Col on their hands ;)

I don't have much time to talk right now so just reply or PM me if there is something more you want to know

Some of you would actually use Nerve Gear? You don't mind living in fear of the microwaves frying your brain. Anybody want to try out the prototype that won't work right? Put an egg in the microwave, that's what will happen. You guys know what happens when faulty lithium-ion batteries go bad, right?

Be afraid...

No device capable of doing such a thing would ever make it to market. The only kind of product that would make it past health and safety stuff would be one which, if removed/turned off/broken, would simply cause the person to "wake up".

Also, there's no reason that microwaves would even be used. If anything it would be nMRI technology (magnetic fields), which is completely harmless, even in large doses (any field strong enough to cause any risk of damage to you, would be more likely to do so by flinging a knife across the room).

I'd love to try out virtual gaming such as seen in SAO. But currently we have a lot of hurdles still I think before we see anything like that. Probably won't be in my lifetime though, or if it is in my lifetime, it would be around the time I would be too senile to think about gaming.

if anyone wants some more detailed info on where VR is heading --> http://media.steampowered.com/apps/abrashblog/Abrash%20Dev%20Days%202014.pdf

This technology may be closer then we think. Think about it, we live in a era where technology is consonantly progressing faster every year. Some of the highest end hardware a few years ago is now considered low to mid range now. By 2015 I'm willing to bet those requirements valve needs will be much easier to obtain then it is currently.
