The Oculus Rift is actually pretty similar, if you think about it. Your brain can trick you into thinking you're actually there. I've heard stories where people actually felt physical pain because of the effects. I wouldn't know myself; I'm still trying to get my hands on one. It's interesting how it works. It sure is no Nerve Gear, but it's pretty close.

I'd say we're about 70 to 100 years out from an actual Nerve Gear Brain to Computer Interface that is safe for consumers. Before that, it'll just be military and scientific communities that will make use of it. It's always that way with new tech. The military and researchers get it first. It gets perfected, made safe, then a tame version of that tech is released for consumers.

Something else to think about.... if we do get full immersion technology... what is to stop something like Surrogates(2009) or Gamer(2009) from happening?

Like people cocooning themselves away from the real world and remotely operating as robotic drones.... Or using the tech to take over and remotely operate another person....

honestly the nerve gear, if you do some research you can replicate that or something very similar
The amusphere's transceivers just run on a lower frequency with the one of the nerve gear, the issue as I've read is that it wont be as good because it wont indulge our sensory system as much lol
What is your intake on the nerve gear and the amusphere everyone?
Im willing to share my knowledge xD
OH and what game would you prefer? the world of aincrad? alfheim? or ggo? or the new one lol

This sounds beautiful. In fact, I've previously wondered what it would be like if I got rid of my physical body, and just lived in a virtual world.. It sounds amazing to me..

But the logistics are just painful to think about. I've delved a bit into neuroscience, and it's definitely a thing..

Oculus rift isn't remotely similar Lol. It's just a helmet with a TV in it.
Don't really fancy being completely cut off from the real world.

Exactly. Will not buy one ever. Will kill my eyesight.

I think the technology of the Nerve Gear/Amusphere is way beyond what anything now, like the Rift, we have today. This is because the visuals you get from the Rift is based on your desired movement, it is simply visual and audio feedback resulting from instructions to move in a certain direction, turn and how fast. The Nerve Gear must directly interpret your desired movement and completely render the entire environment that corresponds to all 5 senses at least every 30 milliseconds directly into your sensory receptors. We probably have technology with enough computing power to do that, but to process all that for every player and coordinate it all together into one persistent world, I think we're still decades to go before that can become a reality. In addition we still have yet to produce something that can hack into the brain like that, with or without direct implants.

hololens (its going to be part of windows 10 and its basically a AI device)

We'll were geting further to technology but as of now if we had something like a nerve gear~well that probably be extremely impossible due to the fact that technology can't really go that far in a short amount of time. in a couple of decades probably.

Well we have neuro headsets (emotive) now that use the EEG system and if you combine it with the oculus rift or the sony morpheus then technically you have a half dive system in your hands, we have the technology its just the time to program the entire system, you program that the nerve gear would have to run would have to instruct every element of the nerve gear and how it is going to function in order to cooperate with the human brain to perform a full dive system

Owning the both dev kits for the Oculus, I'd say I've been pretty impressive. I believe the Oculus and similar devices, even Augmented reality devices, will help pave the future of entertainment and we'll see something like the Nerve Gear in the foreseeable, near future..

Unfortunately, the Oculus busted up my eyes and I now need to start wearing glasses. Awesome!
