Yeah, Lisanna is the main thing - she actually mattered in the beginning and her death was important, and all of a sudden she is alive, but nothing happens! Not even a short heart to heart scene between her and Natsu! Lots of wasted potential

A lot of things IMO. The arcs are too short, nothing is memorable as it all follows the same pattern. The comedy is horrible, by the 5th episode I had had enough of Gray's stripping, Natsu's vehicle sickness got horrible the moment it messed with his fighting in like the second arc. They never have you care for any of the mains or enemies, I forget them right after the arc.
Natsu never learns, always runs straight towards an enemy and the first time he always loses,. He also showed some potential in one of his first fights with the wind dude. He used his flame in a new way which would have diversified his attacks, but he forgot it right after. They say his magic is powerful and unique, but they meet a new Dragonslayer every arc, there's even Godslayers that have an even stronger power, and Natsu always needs a powerup in each arc. They even have to insult him to get him to fight seriously, what kind of an MC is that.
Nobody trains. The only time they were going to train, there was some halfassed excuse and then they instead got stronger within 10 minutes.
And Lisanna, that whole Lisanna thing was bullshit. Brought her back and gave the worst excuse without a proper backing in the series. Completely undid all that was before with Natsu being all moody and Mirajane not fighting anymore. And then what happened afterwards? Nothing, she did nothing until the anime ended, no progress with Natsu even though she said she was going to marry him as they grew up. She's been a background character.

I agree it is enjoyable but to make the assertion that the biggest flaw is lengthy exposition? I can't really agree. For me it would probably be the lack of characterization for the main character, because it saddens me that his flying pet cat has more character development than him. The biggest annoyance is probably the nonsensical power-ups that the fairy tail members get in the middle of a fight, and that the "power of friendship" is used as a legitimate source of power.

Its not like emotion hasn't been used as a legitimate source of power in other stories. See Dragon Ball and Star Wars.

I agree with you.

Hell, look at all those people with earphones in their ears at the gym. They're gaining power and motivation from the music their listening to based on how it effects them emotionally.

I will try to express a flaw in Fairy Tail.

I don't like how the magic system works. Each character has different magic, yet a lot of them do pretty much the same thing or have the same effects.
The most common is the 「shoot some different coloured/element beam"」 that knocks the opponent back.
It reminds me a lot of how it was when playing pokemon games.

Having said that, I'm now way older than the target audience of this series.

I don't know if you would say legitimate. But it has been used before and it's even seen as a flaw with Dragonball to a lot of people. It of course matters how they use it and obviously he thought they did it crappily. I think so too, and it's pretty boring when every arc Natsu runs ahead all cocky, gets beaten, then gets up and runs after the enemy and beats him.

I agree, a lot of them look pretty similar and is just has that general effect. Only a couple are different. I'd actually say that Naruto's jutsus look more unique, better, stronger, and more magic like than Fairy Tail's.

And you're not much older, shounen series are aimed at like 12 or 13 to 18.

The fanservice is the only thing that is keeping me watching this show. Need more Mirajane x Erza BDSM like the special they showed did.

But to be serious, the whole power of friendship is clearly the biggest reason why this show is th worst shounen that exists at the moment.

There is NEVER at any point in this show where we as watches think "Gee, I wonder if Fairy Tail can win this fight?"

When you take away that type of sensation, you have destroyed your series anticipation for future fights.

Actually you know what? Forget about Fairy Tail losing. Its fine if they win all the time, but there needs to be a logical explanation as to why. Thinking about your friends or getting a random powerup at the last second IS NOT GOOD.

I officially started not taking the series seriously when Natsu defeated Sting and Rogue in his base form. Horrible writing if I ever saw one. Hiro Mashima hypes the dragonslayers up to such a degree, makes us get pumped to watch the fight, AND THEN HE SHITS ALL OVER HIS VILLAINS! How can you do that? Didnt you understand we as watchers simply wanted to see an awesome fight? Its fine if Fairy Tail won, but you fucking threw Gajeel aside, just to have Natsu take all the glory? What about the guild? The friendship? It meant nothing whenever Natsu deems it fucking so.

It doesnt matter how much hype the vllains get, how great the feats of them are, when you face Fairy Tail, you will be trolled to such an ungodly degree.

The only way I could ever take Fairy Tail seriously again, is if the entire guild got 1 gigantic ass whooping and realizing that friendship wont overcome everything. And when I say whooping, I dont mean any of that bullshit where they win round 1, to get up to win round 2, I mean an entire arc where they simply cant beat the villain.

But if Hiro Mashima ever decided to make this series a action/hentai one, I would be totally down for it

Actually you know what? Just make an endless amount of Fairy Tail OVAs. That would be great

I actually like the arc lengths in Fairy Tail. Now One Piece arcs. Those are long. It's almost punishment. I gave up on the series after the Alabasta(I don't give a crap how it's spelled) arc. That's not to say the show isn't good, it's just that it doesn't appeal to me now.

Flaws, eh?

The desire for the office to draw fan service is taking away time for adequate story development. As of late Hiro has done a bad job with the fight scenes and there hasn't been a serious sense of danger. There are some dialogues that are absolutely amazing, like when they pointed out that no dragon slayer was able to kill a single dragon. But the friendship quotes would make the entire cast of Yugioh and Asbel from Tales of Graces F cry due to how infuriating the power of feelings are in this show. Erza and Laxus's characters were absolutely destroyed during the previous arc. Erza defying the rules of the world that Hiro set up was such an awful move. Kagura's character was shitted on during the first week of the 3 chapters per week. All of the possible "villains" ended up being hyped to wonderful extents and then the actual application of their work is pitiful at best. The romance aspects of the show are wasted panels (except for Elfman because his is the only relationship in this entire manga that has developed). And getting past all of the bad things that happened in the last arc (because I was kind of directly speaking about it) Natsu is a static and unlikeable character who has not -and probably will not- see any character development before the series end.

That's just my opinion anyways.

Fairy Tail has many flaws, yet I am still an avid fan!

1. The revival of Lisanna-- so utterly pointless

2. Natsu getting beat by Erza and others but still can defeat the baddest of villains. Also, lack of greater character development.

3. Villains turning good

4. Lack of info on the dragons

5. "power of friendship"-- I know that emotions can drive a mage into fighting spectacularly, which is believable because it's similar to fight or flight, but just thinking of friends when battling a super-strong opponent like Azuma, that can't make you win

6. The worthlessness of Lucy-- it annoys me so much. If she does have the One Magic in her, they writers have done a bad job at making the characterization fit. Although, I admit that she is pretty smart!

7. Nalu. The most overrated pairing ever. (not really relevant to whole plot but I just gotta put that out there xD)

That's about all I can think of now...

By that logic every anime does what it's supposed to so what's the reason in even discussing any part of it. This is a forum where people discuss things and this topic is about Fairy Tail's flaws.
And whether it does exactly what it's 'meant to do is also up to debate.

Oh look another moron...
I actually watch and love both for what they are.
Fairy tail is nothing close to a "clone" lol.

Might as well add i watch hunter x hunter, naruto and bleach as well.
naruto and bleach might not be as good as h x h and the other two but they're still good for what they are.
