A pedophile is someone interested in young persons. Not interested in a very particular young person. That also assumes they are having sex, which by the context of the message sounds like he is waiting for her to be 16 before thinking about it, and probably intends to marry her at that point.

As they've known each other since he was 20 and she was 8, it's not that they are necessarily sexually attracted to each other first and foremost, but rather that they were best of friends and colleagues, and the mutual respect and admiration evolved into something else. Again, you can't stop such things from happening, and I wouldn't necessarily be open about this kind of thing if I were them, but I don't think that it is unhealthy.

If they were doing something explicitly illegal, as well, they wouldn't be open about it. I think there is little else but to accept that both of these individuals are mature and responsible.

In other words, people should really mind their own business in this matter, as well the two of them should stop being so public about it.
