My mom was 16 when she got married to my dad ad guess what, he was 36 It's not the age difference that concerns me. If she were 16 and he were 28 it wouldn't be an issue. My issue with it is that she's 12, he's 24, and he's in a position of power as her mentor. Unbalanced relationships are seldom healthy to begin with, throw in the fact that she almost certainly hasn't developed enough mentally yet to have a romantic relationship with an adult, and the fact that they're evidently counting down to the age he can bang her and the whole thing comes across as extremely creepy to me. Young minds are very malleable, he's in a position to basically mold her into what he wants her to be. That completely depends on how mature she is. When I was 12, i was doing work that would probably be frowned upon for my age but it didnt change a thing i stil did it. If she is as mature as an 18 year old, thinks like a 18 year old and acts like a 18 year old than its cool. Still. i understand that if he would do anything wrong to her it could devistate the life of someone that young. |

When I was 12, I was placed into a lot of otherwise adult situations and thus, thought I knew everything. Yet emotionally I was not ready for what life threw at me. I still needed my mother and the help of adults around me. Though my mentality was different than most children my age, I was still a 12 year old girl, who did 12 year old things and had much to learn about the world around her. So the point is, though a person's mentality may be higher than their chronological age, that does not mean that they'll act any more "mature" or "wiser" than their actual age. As for this article, I doubt the 12-year-old girl truly knows what she's doing, nor what she wants. Most girls that age don't understand the complexity that comes with both sexual and romantic relationships. You must have the mentally to deal with it and at her current age, I doubt it. Yet the man on the other hand knows exactly what he's doing and that makes it even worst. My situation forced me to grow up fast too, I understood things no 12 year old should understand. Emotionally though I was still a 12 year old girl who didn't know nearly as much as I thought I did. |

You can never understand a person 100% unless you are that person to inforce my perspective im gonna go into TMI mode. I was brought up very strong emotionally growing up. the only emotion i knew was anger but thats beside the point. Sadness was not the same for me as it was for other kids. When i was 12 i saved 500 dollars and bought a labrador retreiver. Oh how i loved that dog. I taught it how to fetch birds, climb ladders and even trail scents. 2 years later he got very sick. I took him to the vet and they diagnosed him with parvo. He only had a couple of months and during them months he would be in extreme pain. I took him into the woods and did what i had to do. the thing that sets me apart from normal 12 year olds is that i didnt shed a single tear for that dog. That dog was everything to me and i loved him so much but i didnt shed a single tear. from looking at me you could not have guessed me for that kind of person but i was and i certainly didnt pride myself on it. the point is theres no way to understand a person from looking and you certainly dont know that girls emotional strength based from your own strength at that age. truthfully, i think that guy is a perv but how can we know that for sure and it doesnt matter what we think of them. if its legal theres not a damn thing we can do about it. if this guy does turn out to be a pedo. I hope he gets put in prison, beat the hell up, raped by several inmates and becomes the bitch to some guy who calls him toto. |

It does not matter if 200 years ago this would be normal, we live in 2012. Forget the past, we are supposed to be civilized. In China or in the U.S., it doesn't matter. It does not matter if she is mature or not, she is under the influence of a guy who is 12 years older than her. The fact that she is 12 years old is what matters. Your parents could be 40 years apart for all we care but they are adults. This is a stupid little girl who has not even had puberty yet. You say the guy has not done any funny business with her but how are we to know. The guy has influence and he can blind her parents with mula, money, dinero! In any case, what if one day he is all horny and forces himself on the girl. No matter how much integrity you have, when you are in the heat of the moment you do not think rationally. The girl is half his size, he could do with her whatever he want without her being able to defend herself.
Now to the point, in this age and time, this is wrong, and no one who is wise enough can contradict this. |

Jerry Lee Lewis, rockabilly singer from the '50's was 22 when he tried to marry his cousin (wife #3) who was 13 at the time. It created quite a stir back then. Look it up in Wikipedia. Wiki has a good rundown on his life and a few of his mis-steps.

That is way too creepy for me. At first I was thinking "He looks more like an older brother." As I continued to read, it's not a very good look at all, yet alone to have a relationship. I would of thought the guy have more common sense as she's still a kid.

my first thought was, "how did her parents not know about this!? and why was she allowed on a social networking site before the age of 15/16!?"

That's pretty disturbing. He went from being her music coach when she was 8 to being her 'boyfriend' at who knows when.
What's more sickening to me since is there are individuals who support them together. I wonder what her parents are doing about this situation. |

It sickens me how close-minded some people can be and think they can judge someone else's relationship when it's none of their business.
