. . . and the suggestion that I have to add is to use Boondocks as a source, as it is all AA characters drawn in the same style: child-faces, angular, with big eyes and pointed chins. Pointed eyebrows too. I don't know if it still runs in the newspapers. The anime is on Adult Swim on Saturday nights. You might be able to find a collection book of the daily strips in the library and can probably fin d enough examples online. You could use one of those characters and alter some features and dress it in a way that fits and that you like. You could enlarge and trace one of them, or trace and enlarge one, then trace over the tracing, altering the features and maybe taking it down to the body w/o clothes. Then trace it a third time, adding suitable clothes and refining the alterations of the features. Last, put it on white paper by taping tracing to window and taping white paper over it and then drawing over the tracing using longer looser lines, not the shaky lines of tracing or the unsure short chicken-scratch lines of tracing but lines that come from your own muscles and so have an individual expressiveness to them. It would be the third or fourth time of drawing the same image, so this will be easier than you think once you get there.
Last, make a copy or two and then ink and color it -- better yet, color, then ink it. You can do it!
