Skyrim probably has the best open world level design to date in a game. I liked Oblivion a lot for its quests, towns and characters but the world itself was lacking especially in comparison to Skyrim.

If anyone is interested in Daggerfall you can get it for free and its a really interesting game to play if you like open world. Its still playable unlike a lot of games that old and its capital cities are genuinely amazing to explore.

This is such a tough decision.
The first Elder Scrolls game I played was Oblivion, and just thinking of it now brings a massive sense of nostalgia. It was also a little up on the fear factor in comparison to Skyrim. Caves were pitch black if there was no light source, and I loved the imperial city!

That being said, I absolutely fell in love with Skyrim after the initial gameplay trailer was released. It had so many great features that Oblivion never had, which ultimately made it more immersive. The geographical landscape was beautiful and the dragon fighting was insane! If I had to compare both then I would say each were great in their own respective manner. Overall I prefer Oblivion's soundtrack, though that doesn't disregard Skyrim's. Both were great.

One thing Skyrim did lack, was DLC. There could've been so much more they could have done with it, I wasn't satisfied with the three released!

Out of ten:
Oblivion: 9.5
Skyrim: 9.4

Only played Morrowind-Skyrim, but they each have their pros and cons.
Morrowind had more mechanical depth in making your character and more depth in the conversations, but fell pretty flat on combat, vanilla graphics didn't age as well compared to Oblivions, which still looks pretty decent.

Oblivion has more of that Morrowind depth compared to Skyrim, and much improved graphics and somewhat improved combat, but vanilla level scaling and the world design wasn't quite as interesting in many ways, also going to full voice lost a lot of the details that were in Morrowind's dialogue.

Skyrim really streamlined, and probably took it too far in that direction in my opinion, but it has gorgeous world design and aesthetics, the combat is also much tighter compared to the older TES games. Simplified and weakened enchanting and alchemy, and no spell crafting is a big casualty.

All in all I probably played more modded Skyrim than the other TES games, but then I don't have time logged for those games since they weren't on Steam, but I couldn't really pick one as a favorite anyway.
