pretty much agree with a lot of it

how'd his sister/cousin not know he was kirito to begin with? you'd think that the person who was able to beat the game that had imprisoned 10,000 people (less the ones that died) for 2 years would have been fairly famous

the last few episodes seemed to be pretty lacking in any development at all

didn't they try to keep the whole thing about what happened inside SAO as much of a secret as possible? so that is why no one really knows kirito is the one to save a bunch of people's lives

Yeah. The events in SAO were sealed, to the point that even crimes committed in SAO have gone unpunished. The only reason Sugua knew was because of his direct involvement in Argus following it's bankruptcy.

Your average citizen like Suguha wouldn't know anything beyond the absolute basics surrounding the events of SAO. Let alone that her brother was it's hero.

Also, while the show has fallen into a sophomore slump in this second arc, I must admit, I'm not as bothered by Kirito as a lot of others are. He strikes me as the same as...well, a lot of stereotypical Jump protagonists. Did we ever truly believe in our heart of hearts that Ichigo/Goku/Naruto/whoever would lose the final battle? If they hit a snag, did we not sort of know they'd come back with some last-minute power up and win? Did we not expect they'd bend the rules with said power [seriously, Goku, you came back to life like 12 times]? Eh, not particularly. And the shows/characters are rarely faulted for it because it's just a convention of the genre. SAO is the same to me.

If anything, SAO's greatest shortcoming is that it started off with incredible promise and has just fallen into shonen tropes and is using them as a crutch.

Read the light novels before judging. You can easily connect with each character, if you start an anime with an open mind you'll highest chances end up loving it, unless it is brutally bad.

To be honest, I'm actually looking foward to Gun Gale Online arc, since guns are actually my thing. Elves with the ability to fly is definitely not my thing. Now I'm not saying Alfheim Online was the thing that ruined the anime, but it's how the dialogue and romance that gets more crappier each episode. But yeah, Gun Gale Online arc is what I'm excited for Hope this anime gets better, not worse.

I can tell what you mean here about the decaying romance but I'm referring to the last few episodes (23-25) from the light novel

What I hate about episode 23 is that Kirito went super saiyan through all the monsters in the end when he could have done it on the first attempt. He didn't even need help. Oh I forgot. He needed a little motivation. "I'm just gonna get as much help as I can so people can come see how OP I am." Hahahaha what a joke! That scene was so stupid.

i find it entertaining still and dont see a problem with the new game. but i wish he was stronger in the fight at the base of the world tree he should have been able to turn into that giant demon again and slaughter his way through. But thats just my opinion.

Dammit there was so much potential in that first story arc. The murder mystery episode, and episodes revolving around the feeling of fear throughout the community, were fantastic concepts. The beta testers vs. the rest of the community....so much lost potential. I watched the first 15 episodes in one sitting because I loved the concept of the series. Not like .hack that was just one person, but 10,000 people stuck in a virtual world, with real death!! Awesome. I even enjoyed the ending of that first arc, with Kirito and Asuna meeting Kayaba. And how they kind of thank him for giving their life meaning. They THANK HIM!!! It was excellent.

But the subsequent episodes...without that edge of fear, and the chance of death........feels weak. Asuna was a badass in SAO, but now she's just another genre cliche. The motivation for our hero to "power up" and achieve more. Seen it, heard it, got the T-shirt man. With the addition of the sister/cousin incest theme, the series didn't fill out the outline it had drawn in my mind. But I still enjoy the concept of the VRMMO.

It's an interesting dilemma that happens with all shows.

Do you not change the plot and risk people leaving it and getting bored, or do you shake it up a bit and hope it keeps your existing fanbase.

I think with Sword Art Online, the creator's are being pretty ambitious with the scope of the plot.

Most anime use to come standard with 24-26 episodes, now it's down to about 12-13.
I'm wondering if Sword Art Line is meant to be 50+ episode series squeezed down to 24-26?
