You majorly misunderstood what I was saying. Not R1 -> R2 but .hack//Infection -> Mutation and .hack//GU Rebirth -> Reminisce the data did transfer. Do not question my knowledge of .hack as I'm a big fan of the various game series, manga series, anime series, anime movies, and have visited the .hack wikia more times than I care to count so I've got my knowledge base settled.

The core programming is the same from SAO and ALO, as explained in the show itself. Thus if a data flag of sorts is saved then its completely possible to transfer.

Fanservice isn't a show killer nor a show seller, its just something that can be added for extra oomph yet some people wish to use it as a 'flaw'.

I can't say anything about the LN's since I've yet to read them but the way the anime is arranged works fine with me. I'd rather see events than just someone non-stop killing monsters while going up floors. I can see this anytime I log into my MMO.

Read the later bit. That's the gimmick.
Data conversion in universe = / = real life application.
I'm almost positive things like that are incredibly hard, if not realistically impossible to program into MMOs.
It's one thing to migrate data, another thing entirely to convert game data.
At least, that's what I've gotten so far in my game dev classes.

Which episode was that in again?
Still seems like an excuse to keep Kirito overpowered compared to everyone else.

On the contrary, it can kill a show. Especially when it has no place in the show in the first place. Example: See Linebarrels of Iron which, when compared to the original manga is a completely different show that really only shares the same name and character names.

I love the original novels but god damn, do I hate the anime. A number of decisions just grind my gears. (The entire second arc could really have been condensed because even in the original novels, it was a terrible arc.)

2 things to this: a) this series takes place in +2022 not in our time period so there's no telling what is possible. and b) .hack series literally transferred data from one game to the others, as long as had the data flag, no gimmick no nothing. So it seems perfectly possible to expand this especially if you're the one that wrote the original coding.

Episode 16 iirc. Even Kirito himself didn't give the impression he liked being essentially a 'hacked' character but it wasn't his choice.

Again this is 'personal preference' not an actual 'flaw'. A few panty shots, nude shots, or w/e else you consider service will not change my enjoyment of anime in the slightest. Actually nude shots in the right circumstances strike me as more realistic since if your clothes are torn irl, then you're nude no censor bar or (completely idiotic) barbie doll anatomy. I actually haven't read or seen Linebarrels yet but it is on my list both the manga and the anime.

Could it have been done better? Yes, but is it trash and not worth watching? No, its perfectly enjoyable as it is.

Imo, It is kind of like migrating. They're using the same servers running on the same, albeit outdated, game engine, with anything (stats/skills/items) not in SAO being unusable in ALO. And it's possible that other players from SAO would have the same stats (not that anyone sane would play another VRMMO right after escaping with their lives from a death game lasting for 2 years)
Plus, like Crimson said, it's the future.

And to add to the "emotions affect the game", remember Griselda? (Of course you don't, since your hate for SAO requires you to be spoon-fed info) It's possible that the feeling of freedom she discovered in the game kept her data as a ghost.

You beat me to mentioning migration since the mmo I play actually went through one a few months ago and all data was transferred. Anyway I'll add this to my list of 'things I'm tired of seeing':

Kirito is a Gary Stu : Throwing aside that this is purely opinion based and thus multiple definitions exist, the fact is you can't hate on SAO for this and not the entire anime industry.

One possible definition that has been quoted here:

"A fictional character, usually male, whose implausible talents and likeableness weaken the story."

How is anything Kirito has done implausible? If you're willing to think and/or figure out for yourselves there's explanations for everything he does. He doesn't pull out a giant laser beam, doesn't use magic in SAO which doesn't have magic, has died, and has had people he cared for die before him because he wasn't strong enough to save them. Kirito's personality is one that allows 'likableness' to naturally happen as he's a nice guy that tries to put on a hard cold outer appearance. Nothing Kirito does overall weakens the story.

Oh please, tore it apart? All you're doing is over-defending, which some people seem to be entertained by your SAO zealotry, including myself. AHTL, along with several others have had valid points in disliking this over-hyped anime.

If someone decides not to watch an anime (or TV show, movie or so on), simply from one or two bad reviews, RATHER than reading the plot and giving a few eps a shot for themselves, then that's their own problem.

Personally, I think this show is EXTREMELY over-hyped. The only good thing it had going for it was music. The romance was flat, the plot was lackluster, it is over all just bland and mediocre at best. There is no way Kirito wasn't a Gary Stu. He fits it to a T. He has no faults or downfalls. He wasn't a complex character in any sense of the word. He was had nothing interesting to him at all. I found his perfection irritating and nothing about him was heroic. Generic heroine, generic protagonist.

But again, these are people opinions, and you sitting around trying to "tear apart" everyone's negative opinions of the show, just makes you look silly

Are we still discussing the ruination of SAO's plot, or critiquing the Mona Lisa painting? Personally I've never seen a thread go this deep just to bash one anime. It can't be as bad as you say if it's getting this much attention.

So, explaining why x-thing isn't actually a flaw or plothole is over-defending? Interesting logic you have there. If anything I'd say its the anti-SAO people that go rabid over any little detail they notice off by even a little bit. Also not too valid as I have answered why each one isn't a point at all and can be, if you're willing to not pounce on it immediately, reasoned out using bits and pieces of info within the show.

Again people want to spout b.s. and not take responsibility for where it goes I agree that most people should ignore the critics and that they should all just disappear away into their little holes to whine about x-anime that didn't hit perfection.

Over-hyped? maybe but not worth watching? not even close to right. Again what was 'good' or not is your opinion as I found 90% of it to be enjoyable. I've already said why he's not a Gary Stu and tbh I find this to be an idiotic term used by people to describe a character that they don't like. No faults no downfalls? He's a social recluse, has little to no realization of those around him's feelings, and blames himself for other people's mistakes. Complex is debatable and isn't what everyone wants. Again he wasn't perfect and you contradict yourself in that 'heroes' are usually considered 'perfection incarnate'. He never claimed to be a hero.

Exactly opinions that in most cases are wrong and some are questions thus answering them. If it was a genuine flaw, then there'd be no way to 'tear it apart' in the first place. Being able to tear apart people's over-criticism makes me look like the silly one, sorry think you have that wrong. If anything it points out the over-criticism that SAO has been getting and the general over-critiquing that has been blowing up over the last few years.

If I decide not to like something, and have my own gathering on it, it doesn't necessarily make me wrong. It means I have different tastes. Because we have differing opinions, and you seem to think you're always right, you think you're "tearing everything apart", when really you're just defending something you found good. I can do that too with a show I like and you dislike. It's not hard, it's called being a fan of said show and defending it. It doesn't make anyone right or wrong, because at the end of the day, it's a show, and not everyone will hate it or love it. You can't call someone wrong over an opinion on a show. I'm not much of the arguing type or debate type, especially over something so petty. None of the "tearing apart" you have done, has changed my views on the show or made me feel like my opinions on the show are wrong. I think SAO is a show you can watch for some time wasting brainless entertainment, it's not something that wasn't enjoyable in some shape or form. It just wasn't the masterpiece I keep seeing people say it is - and that is my opinion that is neither right nor wrong.

Anywho, have a nice day (or night) and good luck with your future anime endeavors ^^
