Is there a deeper meaning when a guy tells a girl that he used to like her?

It depends on a lot of factors, but it could mean he wanted more than friendship at one point, but not anymore. It could also mean he still has those feelings for her, but his feelings for someone else are stronger now. It's hard to read the subtext without knowing the people involved. It could also mean that his desire to keep the friendship they have overrides any romantic feelings, since a breakup could cause the loss of that friendship.

It may also mean that although he doesn't feel the same about her, but is still curious as to how she feels about him. I've been in a similar situation, but as Spazticus said, it's hard to be sure without knowing the people themselves.

Who knows... this could even be his way of finding out her feelings without outing himself. *shrugs*

Maybe he's just saying that he used to you like you.

Since he no longer feels the same maybe he's just more confident to express his old fondness of her.
If there's a deeper meaning it could be that he actually still likes her and he's a liar. lol

That all depends on the person. He can just mean at one point in his life he liked you or it can mean even now he likes you and he is just using pretense to hide the fact that he still likes you. Other than that you should just ask him how he still feels for you, never know he may be to scared to show those feelings. Especially if he is young, I don't know what it is with some guys but it isn't the end of the world if a girl rejects you or even finds out that you have a crush on her. How are you suppose to find out if there the one if you can't even express yourself to them?

I imagine if the guy is tsundere, then it might be even more difficult to figure out the possible subtext.

ROFL. he is just saying that you didn't give him any chance to express it in past situations and the circumstances made he whim but now he muster his courage to tell you how he feels because the interest is not as high as before but i believed that he still likes you. Don't think too much, just ask him what he means and carry on from there. If you do like him, both of you can cultivate feelings right? together. No one is stopping the both of you

I dunno, guys can be pretty dumb sometimes... lol, i'm bashing on my species right here...

Well, it could be that he might be CASUALLY/secretly looking for signs if the girl might be interested in him. He might not want to say it directly because that might/would put some pressure on him and maybe on the girl, as well. Lol... this is kind of hard to explain...

it's actually self consciousness. He thinks he has something to lose, that is his perception but reality says that there is nothing to lose. Emotions and feelings are strong and people sometimes are their own saboteurs, we could actually succeed in something but we sabotage ourselves along the way because of our own perception that is flawed. Wouldn't really say flawed because we are who we are because of how we perceive ourselves and things.
Well guys are not dumb, it is because i believed that they are sensitive and more caring when it comes to girls. I know that because many have told me that they are shy and do not dare to approach me as i seem harmless and small hahha well for girls. We don't really care because we have many suitors and the way we perceive love is simple and with if have little agendas or even at all.

I would say you wouldn't know if you don't try. If you don't, you will lose the opportunity and what makes people regret is the things they yet do or silly enough to avoid. But if you try, chances are you might succeed. And learning through failures makes you stronger..so basically if "you try, you have nothing to lose". Rather than you might lose her or that if you tried. Change the way you boys think, i'm not a fan of psychology but i always have a little of philosophy of my own which i share. I think really alot and i'm not a clever person , so please do pardon me if i offended anyone here . At least those will when they read my post.
