Memory or the mystery?
Posted 11/29/12
Memories are for those who have nothing to look forward to and mystery holds adventure.
Memories can keep us in touch with happy times and mysteries can be almost torturous.

(: I'm having fun arguing with myself, but I want to know what you'd choose.
Would you trade your treasured memories for the opportunity to have a life full of fantasy and adventure?
Or keep your memories and have all your deepest burning questions answered, leaving no more mystery in your life?

I don't think I'd want either option. I would choose neither, and accept that I won't be able to do all I wish to do, or learn all that I wish to know.

I personally wouldn't see as much value in a life well lived, if I couldn't remember doing any of it, or the impact I had upon others. I also wouldn't want to omniscient. If one knows everything there is to know, then there is no joy of discovery. to be found, or epiphanies sparked.

^ What he said. To choose one of those options is to severely degrade the experience of life. Both must be chosen to have the possibility of a wonderful life experience.

Life is full of both already... there is no need to choose. Both memories and mysteries can (at times), be torturous. Whereas both can be equally full of wonder. There must be times when you look back at your life and feel something tugging at your heart, then there are other times when you feel as if you could laugh out loud because of something you remembered.

Why would anyone ever want to choose? Remember the past... enjoy the things you have done right, and learn from the times where you screwed up (as those times are a big part of what makes us who we are), then apply that to the mystery and adventure that life can turn out to be.

Loving, learning, being pained by others... causing pain to others... every single one of these things can make you weaker or stronger in the long run. But without them, what are we but an empty shells devoid of personality or any true emotions.

i guess statistic will say 30% of the past as we all learn from them but what about the future, so much is to hold. It is a mystery of what holds for you in the future, but there isn't much mysteries for you to focus because whenever you think of how much beauty and other components it holds. It gives so much hope because you don't have to choose at all!

you have learned alot from the past, and whatever future comes, you will keep learning and experiencing. so i agree with those that said it comes together. Wherever you go, you see things you can change, things should be done and you realised because us being different, we experiences differently and it makes everyone interesting. Being said, it's not about choosing but we should focus in learning and moving forward bringing memories with us bad and good but learn good from the bad and smile from the good. You know if you don't give up trying..even bad experiences can teach you well. It teaches me how to love myself more and why i should experience more so i won't limit myself in knowing and experiencing this world. You see it isn't running away from it, it is simply to accept things i can't comprehend or control and open my eyes to know the world isn't just seen by the eyes and feel by the flesh. It is so much more to discover to set my mind that this is it. This isn't it even if you give me 1000 years of life to live. We will keep changing and evolve all because of learning. So there is nothing bad about mysteries and uncertainties in the future being scary, it is why we keep smiling and face what is going to happen anyway. As long as we learn.

Memories are what keep us who we are, we are identified but what we learn yesterday and do today. The future is what gives us a fair ground in learning and be better than who we were. So even the wise and the rich can never be complacent and proud, the poor and the mediocre will keep loving and not be complacent as well. We are never who we are now, so we should look very forward to the future i won't choose any option as it will then say i am living just for one. I'm living since i'm birthed and even the future no matter what happens.

I'll take the "all my mysteries being solved" option, and then use my new found knowledge of everything to go on great new adventures.

This is spot on. I would also relinquish the choice, even forcefully, as much of the enjoyment I take in living would essentially be nullified with the acceptance of either possibility.

If you have no memory, then your best option is the first one. You won't have any memories to lose, except those you might have gained during the journey.
