I find Shirokuma Cafe funny but I'm seriously creeped out by animals talking and doing what humans do -.-

I know the story to an anime is of course the most important thing but the art is just as important for many reasons. It's quite uncomfortable to be watching an anime during a serious moment and the art being chibi-ish or just..bad. I mean if the anime is something like Lucky Star or any other anime that doesn't have a story-line with action, or dramatic time-periods or something and it's just one of those 'funny animes to watch when you're bored' then it's completely fine with me. But if you were going to step it up to an anime..well let's just say, Another, Hanasaku Iroha, Black Butler, Or AngelBeats, then of course they wouldn't be as good as they are now. So much as something small either not being drawn how it is normaly or not being colored correctly pulls picky people away. I wouldn't leave because of something like that of course since it's so small but again, some people would. I am a picky person. Story-line and art both.

I wouldn't say that I was ever turned off by a shows animation, but compared to the animation style used in Gunslinger Girl Season One, Season Two felt like it was drawn by fat magic markers and inked with highlighters.

None, I watch regardless of shitty art I could be missing out on an amazing storyline, it's like playing a game because it has pretty graphics, YOU JUST DON'T DO IT MANG.

Good art increases the chances that I will watch an anime but it's not the most important thing, and furthermore I'm talking good art, not pretty characters - I don't give a shit if something has hot girls/guys in it (I'm bi), but I do appreciate stuff that's got exceptionally high quality visuals, and bad art could make me less likely to watch something though it's not a dealbreaker - it just means I'll probably take longer to get round to it than shows that have beautiful visuals AS WELL AS a compelling story and/or characters and/or lots of good comedy (and I agree with other people who've said they're less annoyed about poor quality art in comedies than other genres).

I don't think simple equals bad though - Fantastic Children has quite simple, bold character designs to go with it's complex, depressing story but I think it's very well designed visually, the character designs are very suited to animation and there's relatively little use of same-face-different-hair compared to the average for anime, all the main characters introduced so far look different from one another, the look also reminds me of Kino's Journey and Princess Tutu a bit and I find that pleasing. I agree that Higurashi looks crummy though, that's an example of simple done wrong and it just ends up looking cheap and generic (I guess that could have been intentional, to further the sense of "here's your typical anime scenario gone horribly wrong", though I could be way off the mark as I've seen very little of it).

I totally agree with you. Before reading a manga or watching an Anime, I must look at the art. If the art is bearable, I'll give it a chance. I cannot read/watch One Piece or Kimi Ni Todoke due to the art. I heard they're both amazing series don't get me wrong, I just can't deal with the artwork.

If the story is able to capture me from ep1 then I'll give it a try. If im completely bored at the end of ep1 and the animation is ugly theres no chance im going to continue to watch.

Im not that picky with anime styles but I do tend to avoid anime with exstreme muscular characters like fist of the north star...i just cant bear it even though it might have a nice story. And i cannot stand one-pieces art style with those really big mouths...

It depends. I kinda just like to watch anime that has a good plot. But sometimes bad graphics get to me :/. It also kinda has to do when it was made. There is a big difference from a bad graphics anime and a old anime.
