I think it depends on the sight. CR avis tend to make more sense as anime characters and whatnot (at least to me). But I really could care less what people decide to use, I just enjoy switching it up and using different characters I really like or identify with.

i totally agree. it shows the personality of the person if the use a "fake" avi ( what anime shows they like, favorite anime character, or just a random anime picture they find) or if they use a "real" avi you get to see what they actually look like. either way, i don't care which one people use, just as long as they like what they have.

I could careless what people use as I use pictures of my pets as mine. I can understand if people do not use pictures of themselves as I hate when pictures of me get posted on the internet. I am not shy about it but it is just a personal preference.

I agree with the people that say that a "fake" avatar represents a person's personality more.

So would that mean you are naked most of the time?......lol

I think I like fake!

I mean, sure, it's nice to know what exactly someone looks like if you're curious, but what if you're not? Or, what if the person who you're curious to see happens to be a total turn-off? I always feel that way although people always try to tell me otherwise.
Besides, when people use fake avatars, it really helps to stretch your imagination. You get to have a feel for someone's personality, and you feel like you get to know them better, even if it's in your own little way.

For instance, my avy is Osaka. I loooove Osaka! She's so fun and cute! She's a real airhead, and she always tends to be random, but she's always really nice, too. She also knows a bunch of pointless junk and, really, can be tactical if she puts her mind to it a little bit. All that is similar to how I feel about myself. I feel like I'm Osaka!

...Is that really, really weird? I just noticed that that might be really, really weird.

But that's how I feel, and I'm stickin' to it!

Oh that is purely up the the person i think. If you like the way you look i guess real is good, but most don't and the fake avi does help a persons confidence level if they are shy like me or don't feel happy with their looks too much.

I think there are positive things to be said either way. A real photo shows the actual person behind the post, but a "fake" avatar often says something about the personality of the person.

I don't really care either way. I think real pictures are nice because I get to see who the person I'm talking to really is (that's why I use my real pictures) At the same time, I can understand why some people might not want to use their real pictures. Also, this is an anime website, not a dating website, so anime avatars are definitely appropriate, plus I get to see what characters other people like and potentially find a common interest with them

A fake avatar lets people know your interests. If your avatar is a romantic type, let's say clannad, then it shows that you like romantic, sad anime and you like to cry.

If you have an avatar of death note, it shows that you like to kill, you don't care about other people, you wan't to write someones name in the death note, you want to be that person.

My avatar shows that i like meeting new people, and I would like to fight against other guilds. Basically, i like challenges, where you fight to see who is stronger.
