An anime that you had high hopes for but turned out to be your most hated anime.

Ack! forgot to quote the original post...... (>.<; ) Which is why the original director actually said to ignore the TV series and just watch the new movies. |

Whoa, a lot of Eva haters. If you go into Eva expecting the greatest thing ever, of course it will let you down.
For me, it is a tie between Death Note and Elfen Lied. Death Note wasn't my most hated anime ever, but it still is nowhere near as good as most people say it is. I thought Code Geass was WAY better. I didn't like L, Light, any of the police, any of the Kiras, or the other Whammy House orphan detectives. Ryuuk and Rem were the only interesting characters that I remember, and they never really do anything. However, I will say that even though I didn't care for either character, the psychological battles between L and the Kiras were interesting. I feel like if there were other characters, the show would have been a lot better. As for Elfen Lied, the only good character is Lucy, and even she isn't that great. The gore felt pointless, and while people say it is the goriest think ever, it isn't. If you want gore, go watch GenoCyber. As for the story, it wasn't anything special. I was promised a dramatic horror story that would keep me on the edge of my seat, and what I got was a boring, fan service heavy sequence of events that felt like it was written by an oversexed teenager with a gore fetish. The horror was lame, and the drama was boring. Not, looking back on it, I do think Drama and Horror shouldn't be mixed now, since the only show that really pulled that off for me was Higurashi, and that wasn't that great, but I did expect great things, and I felt cheated out of my time. The writer of Elfen Lied needs to take a look at something like Higurashi or Another if he is looking for horror, and Anohana or Clannad for drama, even though I still say you shouldn't mix the two. |

I don't think he ever said that exactly. Just that the new movies are more accessible to people since it's not as depressing and self-loathing. It's more action packed and hopeful, the renditions of the characters are more likeable. Willwatch4food wrote: Whoa, a lot of Eva haters. Like you said, don't go into something expecting great things from it. You'll only disappoint yourself. With Death Note, I found that every other character besides the ones labeled 'geniuses' (ie L and Light, perhaps Near as well) were portrayed as having some form of incompetence. The ones who showed potential were killed off early and wasted, like Naomi. For Elfen Lied, I saw a good plot overshadowed by the over excessive use of gore and nudity. I wouldn't call it fanservice, unless you like blood with your breasts and molestation with your lolicon. You can mix two genres and get something great, you just have to find the right one. |
