Dollar Bill to Dollar Coin
Posted 12/8/12
I'm not sure if it was already mentioned, but down here in Australia we have coins for $1 and $2, for as long as I have known. They are gold coins — actually smaller than most of our silver coins — and I must say it's quite cool to have gold coins. I like to collect a pile and feel like a pirate. Our bill money is also made out of plastic, so it doesn't crinkle up over time and it goes through the wash without getting damaged.

I never saw any need for a bill smaller than $5.
Electronic cash might hopefully resolve the issue - and I don't talk about credit cards. More something recargeable like pre-paid phone cards that can be used on each and every thing, including those damn vending machines!

Let me put it like this:

You got 100 dollars, in all 1 dollars.

The Dollar bills version in one bag

The Dollar Coins are in another

Which bag is going to take up more space?

But, the coins bag is going to be heavier, that is a fact

Well done.

I have never understood the dollar bill, over here it's all coins until 5's and has been for a long while now.
I cant imagine carrying so many notes, I mean notes are wallet money but anything up to 2 quid is your pocket change.

They have been trying to get people to use the dollar coin for decades with no luck. Money will probably go comptly electronic before that happins.

As things are right now, you could have Steven Seagal, Tim McGraw, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Taylor Swift, Hulk Hogan, or John Madden promote the dollar coin and we still wouldn't spend it. We ditched the Susan B. Anthony dollar because it got too easily mistaken for a quarter. The Sacajawea dollars? Even after the switch, they didn't catch on. (An exception: Ecuador, which uses American currency. They love the hell out of the Sacajawea dollar coin.)

If we're going to switch to dollar coins, we also need to eliminate the penny and start printing more $2 bills. Deuces are currency, too. Spend them!

Dollar coins are awesome.

Agreed...

Nothing better than the feeling of running out of a bank holding two bags of dollar coins, rather than two bags of dollar papers.
Consider the bank robbers for a change, you hateful bastards.

good..american dollars suck anyway. green and wrinkly and ugly. seriously.

but i love collecting money/currencies anyway. geuss i gotta stock up on those ones. maybe they become valuable/colectible someday or in the next century.

im not sure why the weight of dollar coins would be a problem...i mean, go get some change why you would be carrying over a hundred....who knows?

You'd be amazed at the things a stripper can do with a loonie or twoonie if strippers are your thing you might want to reconsider being a fan of bills. Besides inflation and all: a five spot is more fair if you're going to make her work for it.

er... not that I'd know personally.

Yeah everyone knows that only creeps give dollars. The classy strip club patron always gives fives.

We here in Canada use a coin for our $0.01, 0.05, 0.10, 0.25, 0.50 (had one a while ago, though I think I lost it. got it from the mint), 1.00 and 2.00 coins. It's actually a lot better than bills (though we have new, plastic bills coming in).

Dollar Bills do not last very long, since the material being a form of paper and all. So, if you are going to collect them, and try to sell them. Best to not wait longer than 50 years, or so.
