Every school here has them and I always hated them, wishing I could wear my own clothes.

But now that I've left school I can see the good side of them.

Good points:
They're convenient, you never had to put an outfit together in the morning.
No-one was 'cooler' than anyone else as you were all the same. Some could say that's a bad thing though.

They had bad points too:
Expensive to buy and to replace.
Schools are usually very strict about them.
Are usually pretty ugly

I think overall they're a good thing and should stay in schools.

I don't like them too much just because, besides the fact it feels like an utter waste of time when the focus and money should be put towards education, not getting on peoples asses about what they should wear. It's good for people to be able to express themselves, and one way people do is through style.
On the other side of things though, if it coincides with tradition, such as let's say a dojo or something where you are actually representing something where the place itself is meaningful, then it can be a good thing.

Good in a sense because you don't have to look at what clothes to wear each day.

In middle school we had to wear ugly polo shirts and slacks. I hated them at that time because they were so ugly. In Japan, though, school uniforms can plan a role in what school students wish to attend because they have attractive uniforms that are actually UNIFORM. Our polo shirts all varied in color so everyone still looked different.

As a whole, I think uniforms are great because it cuts down on discrimination to a degree. Kids didn't know who was rich and who was poor (I was one of the poor ones). It took off the pressure to look cool. I also understand people wanting to express personal style, which i why I don't agree with strict uniform regulations, such as forbidding makeup and jewelry, unnatural hair color, etc. I understand that for guys it may be more difficult to express personal style in uniform that it is for a girl. But even still, I've always enjoyed the idea of uniforms, so long as they can actually be attractive.

I also believe having a few variations of the uniform so people can pick which they prefer (so long as they all still match. Uniform should mean uniformity). For instance, for girls there could be a version with a skirt, and also a version with pants for those who aren't comfortable in skirts. Etc. I'm probably getting a little too into this. Better stop while I'm [relatively] ahead.

I've never had to wear them, but I do think schools should have them. After all here in Northern California some students are mistaken for being in gangs because of the colors i wear. Hell even I for wearing blue all the time was mistaken for being a crip. But i just liked to wear blue since its my favorite color. But ignorant people don't see it that way, they focus more on the clothes than the actual person. If everyone is wearing the same thing it makes getting to know the person much easier. I understand wanting to be original, but your clothes shouldn't determine that. Your actions should.

I went to a catholic school for 10 years (WHY must parents try to inculcate their weird ideologies in the minds of their children, no offense to Catholics) and I HATED the uniform. Now I go to a public school and think uniforms from private schools look so fancy and cool. WTH

In one my old schools you were assigned to a class and each class had it's own colour. My class had magenta.
I didn't hate the uniform, it was ok. It was unisex, so the same for boys and girls: black pants, grey shirt, black west with magenta hems and a mangenta tie, but it was optional to wear the tie.

I don't think uniforms are all good or all bad. You don't have to worry about what to wear, and no one gets teased because they don't have expensive brand clothes. You allso feel a sense of unity.
But it kill creativity a bit...
I do think that schools should have some restrictions for clothes because I did go to a school thatt didn't have uniforms as well, and when people showed up in pyjama bottoms or one-pieces I wanted to commit murder, it's both rude and ridiculous if you ask me. Even if I believe people should be allowed to wear whatever they like, some things are just over-stepping it. The only rule that school had was nothing racist and no flags.

Both?

The good part is mostly everyone dresses the same so you don't get bullied because of your clothes

The bad part is that you have to waste extra money on more clothes for school than any other clothes. I really almost ran out of weekend clothes because my school clothes was taking up all of the clothing money.

I went to two highschools. One did have uniform (most of the kids ignored it though some would get sent home for it...but only some). The other school didn't have dress code just the old rule no hats or hoods on your head. Not much towards the way people looked at clothing changed between the two. I just think its not good having two sets of clothes to spend money on. I also learned new fashion tips from my friends fashion rather than got made fun of it. (I'm starting to wear stripy socks <3)

So...I guess I'll put bad. I never liked them. At my old school I always had to button every single button , wear a belt always with pants , wear skirts this high , stuck your shirt in , your socks gotta be this high , nothing with logos , gotta wear these kind of shoes , they gotta this color,,...it just annoyed the heck of me.

Before graduating high school: "Who the hell would want to wear crappy school uniforms?"

After graduating high school: "Oh man, I wish that we would have had school uniforms..."

Went to private school most of my life, and now that I'm in college I miss the uniforms... (T_T) They were so much easier, there was also no worrying about who was wearing what. But still, It's fun to be yourself with your own clothes (anime shirts galore! XD)
