For some reason I wasn't taught proper keyboarding until my first year of high school. At which point I was typing about 40. Now I'm up to 80 or so. That will probably be my life long max since I don't have the greatest finger dexterity.
I did this speed test a few times last night, and it was kind of annoying to just write random words instead of actual sentences, which was off putting and screwed me up a bit. I think I had gotten an 88, a 79, and an 82. Don't really feel like doing it again for an actual result posting because my hand hurts today.

The trick is to never be taught. You actually learn better when you develop your own style. I never took formal typing classes and just through chatting online I natural found a style that fit me, rather than conforming to an awkward standard.

I just tried it in Japanese, and it's amazing how much that decreased my speed (I got 93 wpm and 478 keystrokes in English). I guess that just goes to show what a difference practice makes.
