i assume crunchyroll has to purchase the rights to stream the shows it does every season.

and i would imagine that if they could, they would purchase the rights to every show if they could, and again im assuming the money to purchase all these rights comes from the money it makes from our subs and advertisements.

so how much MORE subs, or money does CR have to get in order to be able to purchase more and more rights to shows each season?

i only ask because usually every season there is 1 or 2 animes i have to go stream somewhere else to watch, and it hurts me to have to watch those animes in not so great quality lol. 1080 HD all the way =P.

so i guess an easier question would be, does anyone know how much it costs to purchase the rights to stream an on-going series?

That answer depends upon who is doing the licensing, I find.

Sony licenses (and keeps) some of what it has produced for Crackle, for example, and while a few of same shows are here too, we don't have Valkyria Chronicles, for example. Funimation doesn't like to share with CR, so anything they get now is very unlikely to also be here. Asobi ni Ikuyo got licensed by Funimation, and all its episodes used to be here, but now only the first two are available.

All in all, I think the costs would be prohibitively expensive, given that some companies would fight for exclusive streaming rights.

why do you want to by pass the "site" and go directly to the anime company?

It'll be Expensive
And it'll be hard to compete with Funi who I imagine has more money to throw at exclusives that they want (I think)

It'll take more money than is objectively worth it. You need to have some major financial clout to monopolize an industry, and it's just stupid to try and put Funimation out of business. It is way cheaper for everyone (us included) the way it is now, and this is before figuring in that Crunchyroll probably doesn't have the cash to license it all. If you're asking how much it costs to license a show, then I would bet a lot of money that there is a HUGE difference in how much it costs show-to-show. Companies compete for a license, and I imagine certain shows are in higher demand then others, and thus cost much more to license. All in all, I don't see any way to license them all, and I prefer it that way.

There are several publishers that prefer to license to Funimation simply because Funi has a distribution channel. Realistically, there isn't anyway CR will get those licenses.

CR won't get them all. For those rights not acquired, simply look elsewhere.

Best advice is to voice your opinion on what shows you want CR to get. If they know what we want they might prioritize it over something else.

I wonder when they're going to start announcing the winter series they were able to pick up.

It varies, but for the current season, the first announcement was on September 25. Four shows were announced before the beginning of October.

Assuming CR has no early announcements as they sometimes do, expect the announcements for the winter simulcasts to begin the week after Christmas.

I think its best not to get every show that comes out in a season, cause if they are not good we could have saved money and spent it on a more top class show that people are waiting for and now one of those shows that we are all bleh about..

Find it odd that season 2 of working is on crunchyroll but not the 1st season. I understand we won't ever see every show, but you'd think the companies would try to get far more animes, past and present, to add to the list. Especially the ones like in the uk, we won't see for years if ever, unless we buy from ebay/international website for shipping.

I'm grateful to have joined Crunchyroll otherwise I'd never have watched SOA and finally catch up on other anime after so long.

Yes, it is here. Scroll down past the second season, and you'll see the Wagnaria!! link in blue, with an arrow to the right of it. It'll display the first season shows when you click it.

I'm getting nothing for season 1, Spazticus. Must be because I'm in UK.
