The wind whistled in Vyse's ears as he flew past his enemy. The attempted slash had failed and the huge knight had somehow been quick enough to block his attack. He hit the hard marble floor a few feet behind and stumbled slightly. Trying to cover himself and avoid any counterattacks from behind, Vyse dived into a roll, coming up a little more gracefully than before. He quickly spun on his heel to see the hulking blue mass of armor launch an attack on a small group of warriors on the other side of the room. "His back's exposed!" Vyse couldn't believe his luck. Without wasting a second he began to charge forward and readied his sword for another swing. Something caught his eye however. When he swung his sword, there seemed to be a lag between his hand and his sword. Worried, he slowed his assault. He gave his sword another swing and his arm glitched, pixels jumping erratically before returning to their proper position.

Before he had a chance to think on it any more, he stopped dead. The sudden jolt removing any thoughts from his mind. A sense of dread filled Vyse as he searched for the cause of his sudden stop. His feet were planted firmly in place, but there was no sign of paralysis or poisoning, and he could still move his upper body. "What's..."

As if in response to his question, a red shape appeared in front of him. Confused by the whole situation, it took a moment for the information to sink in. the small warning panel hung before Vyse, blinking intermittently. Vyse wasn't sure why, but he reached out in an attempt to touch the small shape before him. his hand was mere millimetres away before an alarm sounded and the little red panel suspended in the air before him exploded into hundreds of replicas, covering his entire field of vision. Panic washed over Vyse and a single thought enveloped his mind, Escape. He looked around for any means of escape but it was no use. Through the semi-transparent tiles, Vyse could still see his teammates locked in battle. "Is it just me?"

Before long the alarm ringing in his ears became deafening and his vision blurred. Then, one by one, the red tiles turned black, blocking out the surrounding world piece by piece. In a final fit of desperation, Vyse threw his arms out, lashing out at his personal prison. As he did, he could see the pixels of his hands and arms whirl, as if the force holding them together was weakening.

"No! NO! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!" His screams echoed in the blackness as the last glimmer of red, the last piece of the world he had been locked in blinked out of existence.

Kaito arrives at <Mercury> just as the sun hits noon. Time to finally slay some monsters. The place looked slightly barren with everything looking like the structures would not hold within another day. Kaito just exits the boring town and goes out into the wilderness. A group of enemy spirits come into view. Kaito prepares himself to fight. Readying his rusty katana, he charges the blade until its a brilliant gold. Then he lunges, making the first move toward the group of enemies. His attack hits one of them, decreasing its health bar to halfway. There is no time to relax as the other four spirits are already upon him, knocking him away to the barren ground several meters away. Half of Kaito's health instantly vanishes. Kaito seethes in anticipation. A challenge. He'll have to think on this one. Even though he's solo, he can still win even if these are on a whole different higher level than him. He noticed with their first attack that they attack as a group, but if he can somehow lead one away at a time, he could probably win one-on-one. He backs up a little, ready to sprint at the monsters. He goes towards them. At a few feet away from them, he pivots to the right and dashes. Two of them follow his movement and head left coming towards him. He sprints slightly right of the farthest one and then lunges at it with a golden light streaming behind the blade. Critical hit. The spirit has no chance in defending itself and the critical hit kills it, splintering it into tiny pixels. <Lucky Strike> appears in front of him in purple bold lettering.
"Cool an ability."
He begins to lunge at the other spirits and one by one, each falls into pixilated dust.

Kaito cannot contain his excitement in this new skill. As soon as the spirits were all gone, a window pulls up showing 1268 exp and 480 gold. His level progresses by 4 levels. Level 5. But with that victory, there was still injury. Kaito's health bar only contained 28 health left. He'd used two of his health potions in that fight against the spirits. He still had 3 more, so he decided to go out and kill more enemies. By the end of the day he had 3647 gold and was a level 8. He'd also gotten his one-handed sword skill up to 16 and his lucky strike to 7. He felt fulfilled in this game. He thought how great he felt after he had crushed those beasts single-handedly. He couldn't have done that in the real world, but here it was like a dream to him. He wished it would never end. He stayed at a nice inn that night for 200 gold on the 7th floor, ate a wonderful hearty meal, and got restful sleep. He could never find that trio again though from that morning.

First thing early morning, Kaito embarks once again on the quest for leveling up higher than the clearers could ever imagine getting to. This time Kaito goes into the labyrinth where the stronger spawns are located. 'I can do this' Kaito thinks in his head. As he's looking at the already completed labyrinth map, he looks closely to the more secretive areas. It seems that these jagged edges on the map may hold traps. Just what I need to level up faster. Also I need to get a better weapon. The weapons here that are the best are 10000 each and I still only have 4000 total. Going to the part of the dungeon he finds a strangely shaped wall. Pressing in the center of it, the wall slides open, revealing a diamond chest within the center of the room. Careful he pulls out a transportation crystal and tests it within the room. Since it glistened in that way, it should work if I need it. Opening the treasure chest cautiously, suddenly an alarm blares, and the entrance closes shut. Bird-like skeletons start spawning as well as orcs with huge clubs. Holy -, Kaito mouthed out the words. He did not expect high level orcs to appear, but better for him. There were many of them and only one of him, but Kaito had a high enough sword skill to deal with them all. 22 was high enough right? He thought. He begins by slashing through one that is close and it immediately shatters into tiny crystals. The other spawns become enraged, but Kaito knows what to do. He pulls off a link move, spinning in a circle, making a circular arc with his sword. The effect staggers the enemies and lowers their health to three-fourths. Having the advantage here, Kaito swings his sword upward and splits another birds head. It shatters also. He then pivots and slashes right then left at two unexpecting birds. Both also disappear into polygons. The orcs advance toward him. Kaito puts up the defensive using only his katana. Blocking one orc's club strains his knees, and he almost falls to the ground. Taking another hit would be fatal. He attempts to jab at the right side of the Orc, but the Orc just deflects it with its huge club like it was a bed sheet. Defenseless, Kaito has to duck and dive out of the way to avoid a huge club to the head. The birds are upon him now. They pluck at his vulnerable body. He starts to flail his katana around, but then realizes he can just swirl his sword effectively to ward them off him. As he does this the bird skeletons are sent flying in different directions, some dying and some living after the impact from hitting the walls. The orcs begin to advance again as I try to avoid being circled again. I kill a bird near me and await the club to strike. Instead of just blocking, I stance myself to knock the club as it impacts. The club comes at me at full swing. The right timing... Clonk. He knocks it in the direction the Orc is going and the Orc becomes unbalanced. <Parry> In a split second, Kaito does a strong stab at the newly vulnerable fur. It slices through, and the Orc becomes polygons. Now there's only 4 orcs left. The birds are regaining their footing again and now are squawking in pure anger at him. There's quite a few of them left. Kaito's health bar is only half full now as before it was almost full. Kaito touches his sword with a single tap and the stats for his weapon appear slightly above it. 10 durability left. 'After this battle, I need to get a new weapon.' Kaito thinks. After a few seconds the window disappears, and I begin to face the enraged birds and orcs. I hold my beaten katana close to the ground and ready myself in preparation for their attack. The orcs advance in the front line while the birds hang around the outside of the orcs behind them. I recognize the intelligence of these beasts done by the cardinal system. I concentrate. The sword remains silent as the enemies approach. Three orcs attack me at once. I dodge inward, going in between two of the spiked clubs. One of them barely grazes me, and my health goes down by 10 points. The position puts me right by two of the orcs and I perform a four hit combo. Up-left uppercut, Up-right uppercut, down-left strike, down-right strike. I could have done more but one of the skelebirds lunges at me with its terrifyingly strong beak. I jump back, leaving the two orcs at a quarter health left. Relying on only my strength stats was hard. I couldn't do as much damage with this weak katana. I drink a health potion, and my health goes to 75% full. I only have 1 left. I aim my sword at the far-left Orc and lunge, allowing the katana to guide me toward what I'm aiming for. I switch to a defensive attack stance and slash the Orc across the legs. It stumbles and I jump on top of its head. I push off toward the skelebirds in back. 'If I get rid of them, I can finish off these brute orcs.' I kill 5 of them in 5 consecutive long-stepping swings, leaving three other birds left. I leave a path of polygons behind me, my sword raised in a finishing pose. The orcs turn around to block me, but I just maneuver through their legs, running towards the last birds. I use one slice to behead all three. An item shines and drops from one of them. A chicken breast. <Lucky Strike> appears and I turn around to face the four orcs. I give a battle cry and start massacring them. All at once, hit upon hit, I kill the last remaining, my health suffering somewhat from their counters. They disappear into polygons and a aquired stats window pops up. 7567 experience and 4009 gold show on the screen. I smile, relieved that the battle is done and notice an extra section on the window. <Aquired Items: Orc Steel Plate> is shown below the experience and gold. I go and check the chest for anything in it and find a <Sheering Katana> within it. I go to my equipment screen and click on the character to attack the new items. I decide not to wear the <Orc Steel Plate>, but I do equip the new sword. I also look at the level I'm at. Level 14. I look at the time at the bottom left corner of my screen. 18:56. I decide to call it a day and use my teleportation crystal to teleport to Foretsa.
