It depends on the person. For example, you don't want to pretend to be like Bieber, but you DO want to pretend to be like Steven Colbert.

If you have any further questions on which people it's okay to pretend to be, just hit me up.

That's certainly an answer, but I don't see how that applies to the question. It reminds me of this, though:

In fiction, but that's about it.

I don't think it's fair to the person you'd be using, and I think in the long run it'd be more beneficial for you to take a break from the relationship scene altogether for a little while and focus on yourself. Consider the feelings of the person you'd be pretending to like. If they genuinely like you back, they'll be devastated to find out that you're just using them to get back at the person you actually like. Then they might end up feeling how you're feeling right now, and it'll be because of you.

No! That's messing with somebody ELSE'S heart. That's just douche-y. If your heart got broken then you know how it feels, and now you're possibly doing it to another person? I think that's mean.

I pretend to like mankind as a whole. Oh wait, no, I stopped doing that a couple years back, now I openly admit my disgust with the human race.

Having just lost my wife last Monday suddenly, I can say that manipulating someone's feelings is about the most childish and hurtful thing one could ever do. As hard as it is to find love in the first place, why would anyone want to create an illusion simply to hurt someone else. Rather than being a complicated issue, this is rather a simple one. DON'T DO IT. If you love someone, don't throw it all away on childish things. Even if they don't love you the same way, that doesn't give you the right to crush their hearts. The best thing anyone can do is move on and find happiness elsewhere and let the other person find it in their own time, don't try to manipulate it to some selfish end.

Nope. You sound like a shoujo manga.

Hope things get better for you.

That is an incredibly cruel thing to do to the person who thinks you like them. INCREDIBLY cruel...
I hate when people only think about themselves.
Purely selfishness....

You'll only make things worse if you do that.

You just need to take a step back and collect yourself and don't do anything rash out raw emotions.

If the person you love truly loves you back then you don't need to resort to such tactics to win them back. But if they don't love you back then as hard as it is you need to press on and understand that if he's not the one then another person out there is.

Comforting words and advice ring hollow when you have a broken heart but take them to heart anyways as what the people hear have said is true and you'll wind up with a happier ending to the situation even if it doesn't look like it now.
