We've had quite a bit of new anime come out this year. With that said which anime do you guys think had the best year. You can include any anime you like. If you can leave reasons as to why you chose the particular anime.

My top 3 would be

1. Sword Art Online
2. Naruto
3. Blast of Tempest

I feel Sword Art Online really surprised me it came out of no where and I still find it the most entertaining right now. The characters are great, I feel like Kirito and Asuna have to be my most liked characters to watch in a while. I also love the story and the direction its going in. So for me Sword Art Online would be my favourite anime of 2012.

I'm going a bit far back, but throughout the entire year, these would be my top 3:

1. Sword Art Online
2. Kids On The Slope (Sakamichi No Apollon)
3. Another

I feel that SAO takes first place in that the storyline was gripping throughout the series as well as boasting incredibly well designed worlds and artwork, also that the show gathered a massive fan-base shows that it really has potential when Aniplex brings it over. (Of all recent anime, I feel that SAO has what it takes to make it on Television in the US.) The second season got a little odd, but overall the fantastic first season still kept me wanting to watch more.

Second: Kids on the Slope, this anime was incredible, truly remarkable, a must see of the 2012 year in anime. The storyline was consistent and the struggle of romance between friends was traditional, but what was truly remarkable was the music. I ended up importing the OST from Japan because it was so well-done. The story itself was truly heartwarming and heart-wrenching at the same time, which made me want to see what happened next.

Another is entirely different from SAO and Kids on the Slope. Being a pure, incredibly gory horror, it was gripping as any horror movie. I always wanted to find out what happened next, and guessing who was the dead character throughout the series made me follow it every week as my most watched anime of Winter 2012. Another was an easy choice for a third anime.

I couldn't decide which to put as number 1, but due to SAO's expansive storyline and sheer beauty of world and character design, I put that as number 1. I also feel that SAO can appeal to anyone, especially gamers. The artwork of Kids on the Slope is definitely unique, and I feel that Kids on the Slope had such deep character development that you could connect and empathize with the characters on so many levels, but overall I feel that both SAO and Kids on the Slope deserve #1. 2012 overall had some great shows, but I really feel that these were the top 3.

Not a bad year so far and here are some of my favorites:

1) Kids on the Slope - Shinichiro Watanabe and Yoko Kanno is one of the reasons I watch this series. But besides that, I liked the realism as well as the characters and mood of the general story. The setting is also natural and I liked the themes of it. Plus, the music is smooth.

2) Fate/Zero Season 2 - A nice thrilling masterpiece from Spring in my opinion. Yuki Kajiura and ufotable did their roles wonderfully. The visuals are stunning and some of the battle sequences were quite entertaining to watch. Let's also not forget Archer 8-)

3) Kuroko no Basket - I'm not a big fan of basketball but this series was quite entertaining with its cast of characters. The OST of this series is intense and nice to listen to especially with the drama, comedy, and themes mixed in. I'm also expecting a season 2, or at least hoping for in the future tbh.

4) Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - just one of my personal favorites from Spring. The series was entertaining despite its cliched characters in my opinion. I loved watching that ghost troll Yuuko as well as Teiichi Niiya in their roles. The OP song is also one of my favorites and so was some of the many entertaining little scenes here and there

5) Kokoro Connect - tbh, I didn't have much expectation from the series at first but later on, I loved watching the members of the Cultural Research Club from this summer. It was quite entertaining and a refreshing watch for me with the comedic and romance themes throw mixed together. The emotional aspects of the later episodes were also insightful and I enjoyed watching it every Saturday.

6) Jormungand - I'm a sucker for series like this tbh. The violence, full throttle action, and gun themes mixed in are just a few reasons why I liked Jormungand from Spring. Oh, and let's not forget about Koko and her alpha crew. Her loco face and interactions with Jonah and the other characters were that damn entertaining. I'm also enjoying watching Jormungand: Perfect Order as well this Fall.

7) Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun - Hell, this series here puts a smile on my face every Monday. I don't like Mondays much tbh but Tonari-kun has given me some new hope. The lighthearted comedy and characters are so fun to watch. Rather than random fan-service, the series presents comedy that I appreciate every week. I hope it gets a Season 2 in the future..

8) Ano Natsu de Matteru - I found this series quite charming tbh. At first, I didn't expect much out of it but later on, I found it a rare little gem from the Winter season.

9) Binbougami ga! - loved it! One of my top 3's from the summer especially with the comedy and references from various other shows. (like Death Note, Medaka Box, etc) Oh God, Ichiko is just such an amusing girl to watch every Wednesday. Her interactions and role in the series was entertaining and loved all the themes of the show.

10) Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - It's almost done airing but I still enjoy the hell out of this show. Those delusions Rikka, Sanae, and some of the other characters have are just so funny. The way they dress up, that ridiculously catchy OP song, KyotoAnimation's glorious artwork, and the various themes brightens my day from this series.

Some other memorable mentions this year imo are: Psycho-Pass, Zetsuen no Tempest, Hyouka, Bakuman 3, Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo, and Sankarea

Chihayafuru was pretty awesome. Fate/Zero S2 kicked ass. Nisemonogatari was utterly delightful. Humanity has Declined was spectacular. Kokoro Connect was great too. But honestly, Fall 2012 has been a great season for anime. I expect both Psycho-Pass and Shin Sekai Yori to make this list by season's end, and even Medaka Box is turning out to be worthy of mention. Plus there's SAO which, although it's nothing special, has managed to put out a fairly high quality production. All in all, here's my guess on how it will look for me at season's end.

There were some really good ones that didn't make the list. The list is just my ranking of all the shows that I believe could be argued as the best of 2012.

1. Fate/Zero S2
2. Nisemonogatari (really biased pick)
3. Humanity has Declined
4. Chihayafuru
5. Pet Girl of Sakurasou
6. Medaka Box Abnormal
7. Shin Sekai Yori
8. Psycho-Pass
9. Space Brothers
10. Kokoro Connect
11. Hyouka
12. My Little Monster
13. Jormungand: Perfect Order
14. Sword Art Online
15. Last Exile: Fam the Silver Wing
16. Kids on the Slope

Note: I expect Shin Sekai Yori and Psycho-Pass would be higher on the list after they're over, but if I'm only basing my choices on the portions that occur in 2012, then this is where they place. That means that with Last Exile, and Chihayafuru, I'm only considering the end part of those series, which were both very good. The whole of Last Exile probably wouldn't place, but Chihayafuru would probably be in the same place. Both series had an excellent ending.

Ahhh, I forgot Jormungand. How good that one is depends entirely on how it ends though. Koko's plan is like the entire draw of the show at the moment, and we know next to nothing about it.

Koko's plan with Dr. Minami aside, both seasons of the show provided great action and humor. many of the characters are very well developed and relateable. Plus all the action, espionage, and arms dealing is off the beaten path of rehashed themes in a lot of anime. And the music in the show tops that all off.

edit: I would have added psych pass to that list, but the only thing that makes that show interesting to me is the relationship between Kogami and Akane

added blast of tempest. Dont know how I left that out

Don't get me wrong, I love the show. The writing and the and overall quality are incredible, but if I'm talking about the "best" shows, then I think the plan makes all the difference. If the show ended today, there's nowhere near enough story to make it one of the best. The characters have been the only thing linking the story up until now. Other than that, the only real plot is the mystery behind Jormungand. Basically, while the show has been great so far, the main thing that keeps me thoroughly interested every week is figuring out what's going on in Koko's head. Until I find that out, I'm not willing to call it one of the best. Although I do expect great things from the plan -- the show's named after it.
