Just in general how have people reacted when you tell them about your love of anime/manga? Any super negative reactions? Any super positive reactions (like becoming closer to a friend or such due to a common interest)?

Just thought this would be interesting (forgive me if there is already a thread like this

Nope. Heck, my friends go to conventions and cosplay. Another friend, his entire family is nothing but people who sit in their room staring into a PC monitor, or a TV screen watching anime or playing an online game lolz. Parents an all.

I think i'm just one of those few people with friends an family that actually like anime an games.

My family doesn't care much for it since they've known I've liked anime since the sailor moon age. Though I do get occasional side eye's from siblings.

Well when i'm there, i know i don't have to worry about watching anime around anyone. Being able to talk about anime an games with them freely, i can't call myself anything but lucky from the stories i've heard from other people...

I play D&D with my dad, so he certainly doesn't care, and while I thought my mom would detest, she hasn't minded too much, actually. A lot of my friends are the ones getting me back into anime, so that's cool too.

I find that the kind of people who would give me strong negative reactions in response to the hobbies I have are not people I'd want to keep associating with. It's been a major point of contention for some, built upon misinformation and misconceptions, and life's too short to allow those people who would sit in judgement of what I enjoy to remain in my life. I spend a lot of my time watching anime, playing games, and continuing the work on my first board game. If they can't accept that, I know I will find people who can and will do so.

I'll keep anyone who takes a positive (or at least neutral) view around, of course. I don't think it's a petty mindset to have; friends shouldn't subject each other to disdain over differences in hobbies. It's unnecessary stress, and people should try to live and let live. I know, they often make it a point to avoid doing just that. The vast majority of the people I know have been supportive (and/or an open mind, at least) of my hobbies, fortunately. It's because of my hobbies that I met my girlfriend, as she already shares many of the same interests I do. I'd call that a super positive reaction.

My parents don't really care about my interests, haha.
As for my siblings and friends, well I probably wouldn't be as into anime without them to talk about it with. Glad I don't really get much negative opinions on my choice of entertainment.

Its great to see that a lot of people get positive reactions

I've noticed most of the judgmental people are outsiders who are too ignorant or just don't care to understand. It goes both ways as far as I'm concerned, if you can't accept me well then thats too bad I'm not going to lose sleep over it. As for friends having friends you can talk to about anime and interests in general is awesome makes life so much more fun

Anime around here is a sparse thing. My sister got me started, and doesn't watch it anymore. I have one friend whos into it and my older brother watches the scifi animes (Darker then Black, FMA, Steins; Gate).

But I keep my watching hidden. My parents dislike with a passion anime, and don't understand why people 'waste their time on worthless things like that.'. Parents these days...

Too bad your parents feel that way. Though to be fair, some of us are parents who have encouraged our kids to enjoy anime. I know I did, and my son's watched the bulk of my collection with me (fast approaching 500 DVDs, at this point.) At least you're able to get to know some people here who enjoy it.

My friends don't really care, mom doesn't mind, no idea if dad has anything against it, sister might be a bit weird about it, my brother is all tough and stuff, so of course he tell's me to go do something else xD

But this doesn't go for all my friends probably, because some don't even know that I'm watching it, only those that I hang out with the most do:P
