SAO tech is still several generations away, the upcoming tech for the 720 and ps4 is going to be closer to .Hack. Hearing and visual but using a controller.
SAO tech is a long the lines of brain machine interfaces, the stuff being researched for quadriplegics and patients with partial paralysis. Direct interception of the signals the brain sends to move your limbs, to be able to move prosthetic limbs. But SAO takes it a step even further taking over all 5 senses.

720 and PS4 close to .Hack? Yes, but the hardware itself is still garbage comparing the PC. I'm not trying to offend anyone here but next gen console is going to be a disappointment. Although, Oculus rift is coming soon! You can get a neuroheadset(reads brainwaves) today only for $300-600 online.

Yes.. The neuroheadset only reads brain waves, not controls them, which they must do to be able to make something like SAO possible, the closest thing which I have seen compared to the "nerve gear" is either, once there was an experiment which a man got a screen over his face, and a camera was over a dolls body the subject knew that it was a doll, but when the experiment began, the man who was responsible for the test, was pinching, hitting the dolls legs and such, so that the man which had the screen before his eyes, felt "mental" pain, it was not real, but each time the doll was hit, the person reacted. This is probably the closest thing to brain manipulation.
The subject thought it was his body, even though he knew it was a dolls body <.<!

This is just a step further from the generation that we're using. Sadly, this thing can't override your five sense. Google has also been developing a new product so called "google glass" or something like that. It reads your eye movements.... blah...blah..blah... It won't be a surprised if we have to get augment to play SAO. The downside is probably cancer from the radiation.

I heard that google glasses became a total failure xD But yeah you're right, anything that can do something with the brain, is progress.

Who cares about xbox anyways. Get a good computer and just hook up a controller to the computer and you basically have a much better xbox.

Well, you can say that about any game console. It's the price and intuitiveness of consoles that make them much for successful, albeit not as powerful.

We already have this technology.

True vr will have physics that replicate reality; graphics/computer science is not there yet.

That's a character from a recent video game called Uncharted. As you can see, he looks very close a real person. It's safe to say that graphics today have the look down. But when it comes to physics, we are not there yet. And until we get there, true vr is unattainable.

Is that in game graphics or cut-scene graphics?

Uncharted 3 cut scenes are done in real time. That is a cut scene, but it makes no difference. The character models, objects, and environments are exactly the same.
